A six-year-old boy went to school on a Thursday morning like any other day. He never came back home.

Pranay, from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, was allegedly slapped and hit with a stick by his teacher on August 20 reportedly over homework. Police say CCTV footage shows the teacher slapping him several times. He began crying, then collapsed unconscious in the teacher's arms. He was rushed to King George Hospital, where he was declared dead.

What makes this harder to process his family wasn't informed by the school. They found out around noon, through local cooks working near their relative's house. His father said Pranay had left home that morning happy and healthy, insisting on going to school himself.

Police have registered a case and an investigation is underway.

I'm sharing this story with all of you today because it's a reminder of something we can't afford to look away from how children are treated in the spaces we trust to keep them safe. Rest in peace, Pranay. Copied
