My fellow Africans, look at the world:

Iran has oil & and refineries.
Russia has oil and refineries.
Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait have oil and refineries.
They export refined oil products.

Now look at Africa:
Nigeria, Angola, Congo, and Sudan have oil but few to no refineries. We export crude… and import finished fuel.

Really?
Others refine and supply their regions.
Africa only exports and not even to its neighbors.

Africa needs to fix this now.

News: #PM_Abiy rejects claims of foreign financing for #GERD, says project built without external loans or aid

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has publicly pushed back against claims that the Grand #Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) was financed by the #United_States or other foreign actors, stating that the flagship project was completed without Ethiopia taking “a single birr” in external loans or foreign aid.

The Prime Minister made the remarks while responding to questions during a regular session of the House of Peoples’ Representatives (#HoPR) on Tuesday, marking the first time he has directly addressed, in a parliamentary setting, recent rhetoric alleging foreign financing of the dam.

GERD is a historic national project realized entirely through the sacrifice, determination, and contributions of the Ethiopian people, Abiy told lawmakers, emphasizing that both citizens at home and members of the diaspora financed the project through bond purchases, donations, and other forms of support.

He described the completion of GERD as a reflection of what he called the “heroic stance” of Ethiopians, underscoring that the dam stands as a symbol of national self-reliance rather than external dependency.

Abiy’s remarks come amid recent rhetoric surrounding the project. US President Donald #Trump has repeatedly made false claims asserting that the United States financed GERD and that the dam has reduced downstream Nile flows to Egypt.

In a post on his Truth Social platform last summer, Trump described GERD as a “massive Ethiopian-built dam, stupidly financed by the United States of America,” alleging that it had “substantially reduce[d] the water flowing into the Nile River.”

Contribución de agua al Río Nilo:

Etiopía (86%)
Sudán (14%)
Egipto (0%).

El principal contribuyente de agua del Nilo son las Tierras Altas de Etiopía.

Etiopía es la fuente de la gran mayoría del caudal que llega al cauce principal del Nilo, aportando el 86% del agua total a través del Nilo Azul, el río Atbara y el río Sobat.

El otro gran contribuyente es el Nilo Blanco, desde la región de los Grandes Lagos.

El Nilo Blanco aporta el resto del caudal (aproximadamente un 14%). Aunque es el tramo más largo, pierde gran cantidad de agua por evaporación en zonas pantanosas como el Sudd en Sudán del Sur. 

Se dice que Uganda contribuye alrededor del 2% (es el principal gestor del flujo del Lago Victoria).

Kenia, Tanzania, Ruanda, Burundi y RD Congo suman entre todos menos del 1% de contribución 

Y os preguntaréis... ¿Y Egipto? Pues es un país receptor (caudal neto cercano al 0%).

Egipto no aporta caudal al río, sino que actúa principalmente como consumidor o zonas de tránsito dónde el agua se pierde por evaporación o uso agrícola. Es un país puramente "aguas abajo" que depende en un 95% del caudal que llega desde el sur. 

Esta disparidad entre quién pone el agua (Etiopía) y quién la consume históricamente bajo tratados antiguos (Egipto) continúa siendo el eje de las tensiones.
