@shericew8780 @GSLIS_youth Burns does a lot of his work in b&w and it adds this eerie feeling to it. I googled some of his other work during the analysis and it gave me Junji Ito vibes (a Japanese horror artist). If you can, look up Ito's work, I see a lot of similarities between them.

@GSLIS_youth @hal_schrieve @ReadingRuKaye @APaganLIS2017 @KristinaMFeeney @shericew8780 While I'm not saying that these themes cannot be talked about, the stuff in Cardcaptor was almost romanticized of being the ideal relationship instead of showing why a relationship between a 4th grader and her teacher is beyond messed up.

There is even a scene towards the end of the series where the student and teacher go on a public picnic date. I question in what world would any find that acceptable? Based on the manga I read as a kid, a lot of adult themes were normalized.

One example is that one of Sakura's classmates is dating their homeroom teacher. The classmate is in either the 4 or 5 grade.

My take on Cardcaptor at the time when I was reading it as a young teen was that it showed that teenage girls could be more then one-dimensional. We could be strong, caring, hesitant but brave all at the same time.
