I tend to forget that video games are literacy! You are so immersed in the game that you forget that there's a storyline or you're making your own. Many students spend their downtime playing these, I wonder if they forget the literacy that is involved in them. #diglit6440
I think Tiktok has become a great platform that not only students can learn from, but teachers too. Anderson's article has reminded me of all the teacher tiktoks that I have come across offering great advice that I would love to incorporate into my own classroom #diglit6440
I feel like I have said this in a previous week's readings, but how are supposed to keep up with the most relevant and appropriate social media apps that students will be accessing? I'm scared that one day I'm going to miss something my student are talking about...#diglit6440
I am loving the idea of incorporating more multimodal forms of text from social media apps. This connection will allow for students to bring more of their own interests from outside of the classroom in, allowing for students to learn from each other. #diglit6440
This weekend I published my capstone website, one of the final steps in receiving my MEd in Reading Ed. This showcases my philosophy of literacy ed. and the work I have done to meet all seven ILA standards, qualifying me to become a literacy specialist.

By using and incorporating social media both inside and outside of the classroom, both teachers and students will be able to connect with those of similar views and likemindedness. We should be allowing our students to navigate through this #diglit6440
Week 8 Thread: Ethics & Citizenship Digital Literacies (Thread Below๐๐ผ) looking into the work of Garcia, et. al., Luke, & Tufekci #diglit6440
With technology and media at our fingertips, we should start to make this become the core of the educational curriculum to a point. It is something very relevant that mostly all students could connect to rather than learning the more traditional way as it has been. #diglit6440
A new way to look at having more ethical ideology in literacy, "incorporating the development of sophisticated academic literacies into meaningful contexts through critical civic projects increases both studentsโ skills and their sense of civic agency." (Garcia et. al, p.162)
With so much focus on literacy education being taught towards high-stakes testing, we need to be able to find a balance between this and integrating new literacy allowing students to see more. Rather than holding back the information that students would not otherwise see.
We should learn to teach our students how to stay focused and on task as they connect their learning to the digital world to stay on track. There are many distractions that can lead to irrelevant learning and wasting time #diglit6440
In looking at this graphic it seems like a large juggling act of trying to fit everything together yet when having 26 young minds working together in a classroom I find it to find that overlap in the middle #diglit6440
Personally I find myself working quick on the computer, although in order to memorize things, I find that writing using pen and paper thoroughly engrains something into my brain. Through digital learning I am able to explore more options rather than a traditional book #diglit6440
As I was reading through the "New Alignments" article I began to wonder as a future teacher how will I begin to learn about the new and upcoming platforms that could be used in connecting learning. Will it be from my students or through my own digital searching? #diglit6440
Public Libraries are a great resource that allows all to engage in digital literacies outside of school where research can lead towards deeper exploration. #diglit6440
Week 2 Thread: Defining Digital Literacy - Critical Digital Literacy (Thread Below๐๐ผ) looking into the work of Avila, Bishop, and Hendrix-Soto #diglit6440
Due to the constant overflow of information at our fingertips, we as the reader need to look more in-depth into the subject matter. If not one can be quick to fall victim to false details. As a reader, we have to break down to find truth. #diglit6440
