It's hard to find words for how incredible Pat Furgurson was to work with and how loved and missed he is. If you can, please help support his wife and son so we can give Pat the sendoff he deserves. https://t.co/8VpMH2rvTN
Hi all. My friend and former Capital Gazette colleague Pat Furgurson has been in the hospital for some time now, and his prognosis has worsened in the last few days. If you don't know Pat, he's a white-haired, wise-cracking newspaperman with a soft spot for helping young journos.

Good morning! If you read the @baltimoresun print edition today, you may be a little confused. The @baltsunguild is still on a byline strike, and will be for the rest of the week — including on Election Day.
I’ve had a lot of bylines in my 2.5 years with The Baltimore Sun. Today, and during this entire important election week, I’m standing with my colleagues for a byline strike to say we want a fair contract and top-notch journalistic standards.
If you’re reading @baltimoresun today and asking the same question as my grandma, the answer is @baltsunguild members want strong journalistic standards and a fair contract.
We're calling on readers to stand with us to demand better working conditions and newspaper ethics and standards that should be the norm. If you agree, join us at 8 a.m. Nov. 4 for a kick-off event at 200 St. Paul Pl. or send a letter to Sun management:

The Baltimore Sun dissolved its features department Monday, reassigning its staff to news departments – the first time since at least 1888 the newspaper won’t have even one reporter dedicated to covering the city’s cultural life.
UPDATE: On Friday, the Baltimore Sun Guild filed a charge with the National Labor Relations Board concerning the firing of union member Maddi O’Neill in September. (1/3)
