"The Catholic Church therefore repudiates those concepts that fail to recognize the inherent human rights of indigenous peoples, including what has become known as the legal and political “doctrine of discovery”." 1/4 https://t.co/sEYUWK9KKf
I never heard about the Doctrine of Discovery until last year. Dating back to the 1400's it's one of the many Western religious and government policies that have tried to systematically erase Indigenous peoples and their cultures for the benefit of colonization. 3/4
Reaching 30% protected lands and waters and getting to Net-Zero GHG emissions requires major public and private investment. We can't afford to let a federal budget cycle go by without big investments in Indigenous leadership and nature-positive, climate-smart ag and forestry.
Building a clean economy means investing in Indigenous, farming & forestry communities - these historic stewards of lands & waters are critical to Canada's future competitiveness, & our response to the frontlines of the climate & nature crises. https://t.co/LPjRBYEdkX

All I want for Christmas is a... Global Biodiversity Framework. Oh! Thanks Santa (and the 196 countries that consented to the #KunmingMontreal Agreement). #COP15 Great work @natureunited_ca@nature_wonks https://t.co/ctbv6Ewlsd
Indigenous leaders from Great Bear Rainforest and Seal River sharing a panel with @natureunited_ca - sharing a fundamental truth - we have a responsibility to steward the lands and waters that hold Earth’s biodiversity and carbon #COP15
Now at #COP15 donor countries like CANADA making financial commitments to support countries that need assistance in meeting ambitious #biodiversity goals. Is this goodwill enough to get to a #globalbiodiversityframework that meets @natureunited_ca’s scorecard for success? #TBD
Kicked off this week of #COP15 in Ottawa, representing @natureunited_ca in launch of @AAFC_Canada Sustainable Agriculture Strategy Advisory Committee. Back in Montreal, conversations all week confirm #regegenerativeag is critical to reversing biodiversity loss and climate change.
"Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau today announced that Canada will provide a new contribution of $350 million to support developing countries – home to the vast majority of the world’s biodiversity – to advance conservation efforts." https://t.co/0GBL9hsthW

""Third, we need to mobilize resources to achieve this from the government, the private sector, philanthropy, and multilateral institutions. And we must do all this in full partnership with Indigenous peoples."
""When we conserve or restore forests and wetlands, we help nature, and we help nature help us, by sequestering carbon, cleaning our water and air, and providing rich ecosystems for life."
Two years late, but there's no time like the present. #COP15 provides an opportunity to recognize Indigenous leadership globally and in Canada @natureunited_ca https://t.co/sPnab8oTEw
The work happening at #COP27 is building momentum for next month’s @UNBiodiversity Conference in Montreal. Here’s how Canada can help inspire the world to make real progress.
