Even though President-Akufo Addo denied the presence of a US military base in Ghana in 2018, through investigations, it has been discovered that the US has established the West Africa Logistics Network (WALN), which is reportedly another name for a US military base, at Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

They have reportedly taken over one of the three terminals at the airport and do not even require a passport nor a visa to enter the country. They are also not required to go through customs or undergo any form of checks.

The cause of alarm here is that, if Ghanaians get killed by US soldiers or get their properties destroyed, they cannot sue them, neither can they be sent to court to face the full rigors of the law for their actions.

🇬🇭#OccupyJulorBiHouse: Ghanaian musician, EL (@ELgh_) says yesterday's episode of the protest was a little impromptu but “it is better late than never.”

🪧The artiste is on the ground today at the 37 Lorry Station where protestors are expected to converge for Day 2.

He says a rewiring of thinking is crucial if any substantive change is to be seen in Ghana.

#OccupyJulorBiHouse Protest Update No. 4.
RE: Announcing the release of detainees.

The #FixTheCountry collective are pleased to finally announce the release of those unlawfully detained for over 12 hours by Ghana Police Service for exercising their constitutional right to protest. We are working hard to ensure all those detained have in fact been released, if you have any knowledge of any missing persons, please get in contact with a team member as soon as possible. Due to the fact our comrades’ phones and other personal effects have not been returned to them, we have limited information to share on the experiences of some of those detained.

Our comrades gathered at 37 lorry station as planned. At approximately 8am, they were approached by the Ghana Police Force who demanded and with force pushed into the bus whilst other police personnel created a human wall to prevent them from exiting the bus. They were physically and psychologically assaulted and had their mobile phones and other personal effects taken away. The police asked them to remove their clothes. Whilst being denied their right to legal counsel, they were asked to make a caution statement. They were later detained in the cells for hours on end, until they were finally informed their release was being negotiated. After hours of negotiation, they were released without their personal effects. Ghana Police Service cited unlawful gathering and defying police order as the offence.

Despite the assault they endured, we are thankful for the physical well-being of our comrades and will be releasing further details at the right time. We would like to thank all the lawyers that worked tirelessly to defend our brothers and sisters. We would also like to thank the health professionals, the media and other parties that supported on the ground. We extend our gratitude to our friends and sympathizers from around Ghana and all the world who stood in solidarity with us today.

Finally, we would like to thank Ghana Police Service and the government for demonstrating exactly what #FixTheCountry stands for and have been reiterating. For years, we have spoken out about the systemic abuse of power enacted by the state. On this fateful day, a day we collectively celebrate Nkrumah and proudly sing “and help us to resist oppressors’ rule” they chose to use brute force to thwart a peaceful protest. Today, Ghanaians at home and abroad have proven that we are indeed, not timid people. Yes, we might be slow to anger, but we were and continue to be ready to strike hard. No one, at home or otherwise will tamper with Ghanian freedom and dignity.

The cost of staying at school-owned hostels has increased yet again this year. Why are the students being treated this way? What do you anticipate private owners to do if management is demanding this? Education is currently only available to the wealthy. SMH 🤦‍♂️
