Indian Medical Association (IMA) Vs Baba Ramdev Case (Explained)

This is the ad for which IMA and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah want to rip apart Baba Ramdev

The ad titled - ‘Misconceptions Spread By Allopathy: Save Yourself And The Country From The Misconceptions Spread By Pharma And Medical Industry’

In this ad, Patanjali talked about :

BP, Sugar, Thyroid, Eye and Ear disease, Skin disease, Liver, Arthritis, Asthma, Heart blockage, low immunity, infertility, stress

Patanjali said that there is no permanent cure of these disease in allopathy and cure is designed by Pharma and medical industry in such way that patient just keep buying their medicines all life

Patanjali claimed that they have ayurvedic cure of these disease in which there is no side effect and patient is completely cured an no need to take medicines all like like allopathy

IMA made following allegations on Baba Ramdev :
- Baba Ramdev called allopathy a “stupid and bankrupt science"
- Ramdev made claims about allopathic medicine being responsible for Covid-19 deaths
- Ramdev asked people to not go for Covid vaccines
- “continuous, systematic, and unabated spread of misinformation" caimpaign against pharma and medical industry
- false and unfounded claims about curing certain diseases through use of Patanjali products

Timeline

- August 2022 IMA filed petition against baba Ramdev in Supreme Court

- November 21, 2023, first hearing on petition
Justice Amanullah orally warned Patanjali against claiming their products can completely “cure" diseases, and threatened to impose a cost of Rs 1 crore on every product for which such a claim is made n asked him to stop

- January 15, 2024, Supreme Court received an anonymous letter addressed Justice Amanullah regarding the continued publishing of false and misleading advertisements (Who sent that anonymous letter ?)

- Feb 27, 2024 Supreme Court issued contempt notice to Patanjali Ayurved and its MD Acharya Balakrishna for flouting earlier orders and continuing to propagate misleading claims about curing diseases with the company’s products
Court placed a blanket ban until further orders on any further advertising or branding of Patanjali medicinal products

- March 19, Court was told reply to contempt notice was not filed, after which it passed an order seeking the personal appearance of Balakrishna and Ramdev. It also made the Uttarkhand government a party

- March 21, Balkrishna issued an unqualified apology to the Supreme Court

- April 2, Court strongly criticised Ramdev and Balkrishna, dismissing their apology as “lip service"

- April 9, Ramdev and Balkrishna tendered an unconditional apology before the Supreme Court

- April 10, Bench said. “Tendering apology is not enough. You should suffer the consequences for violating the court’s order. We do not want to be generous in this case.
SC said: “What about all the faceless people who have consumed these Patanjali medicines stated to be cured diseases which cannot be cured? Can you do this to an ordinary person?"

Hearing is going on under following laws :
- Drugs & Other Magical Remedies Act, 1954 (DOMA)
- Section 89 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019
- MoU signed by the Ministry of AYUSH and the Advertising Standards Council of India in January 2017

People sud understand that real villain here are these laws. All medical guidelines and laws are made by IMA so if Baba wants to prove efficacy of his medicines, he has to prove on IMA guidelines so Baba is playing on IMA's pitch. There sud be separate act for Ayurveda products and they sud not come under DOMA 1954

In 1910, USA published a Flexner report which was funded by Rockefeller group which recommended to eliminate naturopathy treatments and traditional medicine system and to adopt modern allopathy which was again founded by Rockefeller group and they had business interest in that

Experiences with Maha Periyava: The Mystic Who Dazzled the Western Professors

A few years back some Russian and American professors, who came to Chennai, had darshan of Maha Swamigal.

In the year 1987, Soviet Union celebrated the Indian Cultural Festival. It was my custom to write research papers related to our culture and tradition and show it to Periyavargal. We took one such blessed paper to hand over to Professor Ribekov, the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Oriental Studies in Moscow. The only picture that adorned his room was of the Kanchi Periyavar! What wonder, he had not even seen Swamigal in person until then. He said, 'When I come to Chennai--one, I should meet the Kanchi sage and converse with him and two, I want a valampuri shankhu (a conch with threads going clockwise)'.

After some years, Ribekov came to Chennai. We went to Kanchi with him. As we entered the Matham, they said, "No darshan today, Periyavargal has fever."

The man who came with me had noted down the questions he had in his mind and were seeking answers for them. When it seemed that we would be disappointed, somebody came and told us, "Periyava asked me to bring you people to him." A crowdless, private darshan for us.

Periyavargal, who was lying down, got up and silently looked at the newcomer. Within minutes, tears of joy started issuing out of the man who came to meet the sage. No one talked, it was very silent. At length Periyavar himself talked to me: "Tell him to ask whatever questions he has to." Ribekov said, "I got the answers even without asking them." He could not get around to speak anything more.

Periyavargal: Though Sanskrit is seen mixed in the Russian language, is it there in the dialect spoken in the extreme north of that country?" Ribekov was taken aback. "It is true, it is not so," he said.

Periyavargal: Your country has the name Rishivarsham. The reason was, it was only there that Rishis like Yajnavalkya established a Vedic research centre.

The sage gave us many more such details and made us go ecstatic. When we took leave of him, Ribekov told the sage, "What should I do to become a Hindu?"

"Even without doing anything you are a Hindu."

Not satisfied, he said, "I would rather have a Hindu name." Looking at us and laughing, Periyavargal said, "With a white beard this man has the look of a Rishi. Let him have the name 'Rishi'." Ribekov was immensely happy. Rishi (Ribekov) has now started a branch of the Ramakrishna Mutt in Moscow.
