Jawaharlal wrote in his autobiography, family's original surname was Kaul. Ancestor was given land next to a canal, Neher in Urdu, & so family was called Nehru. First informally. By mid to late 19th c, formally.

Getting land next to canals was uncommon hence surname uncommon.

Trump’s deal with Putin on Russian diesel supplies is nothing more than a political act to calm the markets, because what Putin actually promised to release amounts to no more than hours or a few days of American consumption.

The wars are leaving the world with fragmented supply chains that are constantly operating under repair.

The world had barely recovered from the pandemic when it took another blow.

Now, instead of working to calm things down, we are diving into a new war in the other strait, one with regional potential.
No one mentions the UN, and Trump has no idea of the United States’ responsibilities in the world.

On the contrary, he acts like a gangster who thinks the world is a casino where he has to use the presidency to make money.

There is no expectation of global improvement in the short term, whether in politics or the economy. People are increasingly dissatisfied with the status quo and want to blow up what they call the system.

The problem is that there is no project for that, and the representatives of this wave are increasingly unprepared to channel these aspirations, leading nations into frustration and a deepening disillusionment with no project at all beyond the feeling that something needs to be broken.

आज की रणनीति प्रदर्शन में आई लड़कियों को टारगेट करने के लिए महिला सिपाहियों को आगे करना था। इंस्टा पर दर्जनों रील चल रहे हैं। यंग लड़की को पुलिस धक्का दे रही है। उन्हें क़ाबू में किया जा रहा है। जो लड़कियां कैमरा लेकर निकली थीं उनके साथ भी धक्का मुक्की के बहुत रील हैं। ऐसा लगता है कि सड़क पर आने वाली इन लड़कियों को जिन्हें हम बच्चियाँ कहते हैं, ख़ास तौर से टारगेट किया गया है। जेन ज़ी का जो हौसला है, वो इन लड़कियों के आने से बड़ा होता है। इसलिए उन पर भयंकर हमला हुआ। ये हमला ऐसा नहीं कि सर फट जाए बल्कि ऐसा कि उनका सर झन्ना जाए। ऐसे भी रील हैं जिनमें पुलिस ने उन्हें खींचते वक्त या टाँगते वक्त उनके कपड़ों का भी ध्यान नहीं रखा। अगर इस देश में इंसाफ का मंदिर होता तो ज़रूर इसे लेकर सरकार को नोटिस जारी करता। सरकार के भीतर हड़कंप मच जाता।

एक और बात है। हर रील में लड़कियों धक्का खाती हैं मगर किसी रील में डरती नहीं हैं। लौट कर या खड़ी होकर प्रतिकार करती हैं। बस की खिड़की से कूद जाती हैं। छतों पर चढ़ जाती हैं। आप इंस्टा रील देखिए, आज के प्रदर्शन का विज़ुअल सेंस बदल जाएगा। शर्म भी आएगी। बच्चियों को मार कर, धकिया कर आज घर गईं किसी महिला पुलिस को अच्छा नहीं लगा होगा। आने वाले दिनों में महिला पुलिस की आक्रामकता का भयंकर रूप दिखेगा।

मैं और शबनम आज ढाई घंटे तक रेंगती सड़क पर चलकर, बैरिकेड्स पार करते हुए कनॉट प्लेस पहुँचे। पूरी दिल्ली छावनी बनी हुई है। वहाँ सैकड़ों आंदोलनकारी और हज़ारों सुरक्षा बल मौजूद थे; पुलिस उन्हें पकड़ रही थी। अचानक एक महिला पत्रकार भागती हुई आई; वह कह रही थी कि गुंडों ने उसके साथ मारपीट और दुर्व्यवहार किया है। वह पत्रकार कंपकंपी से काँप रही थी, और तभी पुलिस वाले उस पर टूट पड़े। उसे उठाकर बस में ठूँस दिया गया। वहाँ बहुत सारे बिकाऊ/ग़ैर-निष्पक्ष पत्रकार भी घूम रहे थे, जो SIR का विरोध करने वालों से सवाल पूछने के बहाने बदतमीज़ी कर रहे थे। हम लगभग दो घंटे वहाँ रहे। वहाँ से निकलने से ठीक पहले एक और महिला पत्रकार पुलिस वालों के पास दौड़ती हुई आई, उसके साथ भी वही हुआ था—गुंडों ने उसे भी मारा था। कनॉट प्लेस (सीपी) के उस कोने में 100 से ज़्यादा गुंडे जमा थे। उन्हें बसों में भरकर लाया गया था और सीपी का वह हिस्सा आंदोलनकारियों पर हमला करने के लिए उन्हें सौंप दिया गया था। पुलिस ने उन्हें खुली छूट दे रखी थी।

दिल्ली पुलिस और पत्रकार इस आदमी से पूछ रही है कौन हो भाई कहां से आये हो क्या काम है और आदमी मुस्करा रहा है।

ये बेल्जियम मूल के महान भारतीय अर्थशास्त्री समाजविद् ज्यां द्रेज है जिन्होने नरेगा जैसी योजना और RTI जैसा अधिकार दिलवाया गरीबों के लिए तमाम योजनाएं बनाई।

लेकिन 5kg राशन देने वाले योगी मोदी सबको याद है।

小孩情了：那到底是谁洗？
庄子说：干净的人有习惯，脏的人有需要，两个人都洗。不等小孩反应，他又补了一句；其实俩人都不洗，干净的不用洗，脏的不爱洗。
小孩彻底迷糊。
庄子这才点明：这就是诡辩。逻辑都通顺，但答案却不一样，很多人跟你争论，逻辑听着都没问题，但结论可以随意变换。
绕来绕去，目的不是求真，只是把你绕晕。
遇到这种诡辩，不必争辩。

Read the Saket CJM's order dismissing Ratna Singh's (@whattalawyer) plea against her illegal detention today. How terrible is this order:

1. Not one line on the only question that mattered, viz. "By what legal authority was she being detained?"
2. Eight counsel present for the applicant, the applicant on video during the hearing, yet no time given to file an affidavit. Dismissed instead.
3. A "complaint on oath" treated as if it needed an affidavit, when she could have been examined on oath over video by the Magistrate.
4. Calls her location unclear, while recording her home address and that she was right outside it.
5. Faults her for not naming the officers, when her complaint was that they refused to show any authority.
6. Video of the confinement was available on the court's own system. Unwatched. Decided "without delving into the merits."
7. Cites a Supreme Court judgment that upheld an FIR direction, to refuse one.

Liberty lost on paperwork. Courts really need to grow a spine now.

THINK: A young man loses his grandmother, is reportedly offered by Delhi police to go for last rites (as per police) .
BUT fact is, he is still in detention. No clarity on where he is, when he will be released, why was he picked up by the police from an airplane in the first place when he hadn’t broken any law. Doesn’t Abhijit Dipke @abhijeet_dipke and many other young people like him have the same rights as every Indian citizen? 🙏
