New Episode 🎙️: The Story of Sarvjeet Tamta:
The melodic strains of Nusrat's "Saanu Ek Pal Chain Na Aavein" reached Sarvjeet's ears, and he was struck by an intense feeling. It was as if this song held the missing piece to his puzzle. Fueled by his passion, Sarvjeet made the bold decision at just 16 years old to leave his hometown of Almora and pursue music.
Just months later, he found himself teaching music and painting to kids at a private school in Pant Nagar, a hundred kilometers from his hometown, Almora. But one day, the school asked him to clean toilets—because he was Dalit. He quit on the spot, surviving without money, sleeping on roads.
A self-taught qawwal, Sarvjeet made his way to the homes of legends—the Wadali brothers in Punjab, Fakira Khan, the Manganiyar singer in Rajasthan. He later founded Rehmat-e-Nusrat. Today, he sells out shows, and his fans include stars like Naseeruddin Shah. Listen to the story of Sarvjeet Tamta—one of the finest qawwals of our time. @amarrass
