Virtual reality + traditional art meet. Dark, surreal dreams composed of old and new media, the natural and the artificial. By solo artist @zakarian_mariam. 🌱
As someone who actually develops VR applications, this is utterly useless, because this is not how people move.
People shuffle, stumble back, to the sides, crouch, jump, make half-steps, and would absolutely fall off the platform edges by doing awkward, too fast movements.
Robot tiles that let you walk forever in VR
Researchers at the University of Tsukuba built a tile that moves under your feet as you walk.
It uses sensors to read your gait and predict where your next step will land.
✅ Each tile slides into place before your foot touches down.
✅ To you, it feels like you keep walking forward.
✅ In reality, the system keeps you in the same small area.
This could remove one of the biggest limits in VR.
You get natural walking without a big treadmill setup.
And no risk of drifting into a wall.
Simple idea. Clever execution.
Robotics keeps finding strange ways to solve motion problems.

Wait, did @microsoft really remove the tiles in the start menu of Windows 11?
So now we make tiny, ugly, clickable folders instead of simply grouping items and being able to cusomize tiles?
Who approved this #UXDesign "upgrade"?

Excited about using @openbrushapp for a couple of upcoming animated projects...if only it would detect my @htcvive Pro. 💔
More than anything, working in the VR medium really requires patience and willingness to accept that endless bugs/issues are just a part of your life now!
@davidoppenheim Hi David, it's not online but I can find it for you. Do you also work with VR art or just curious? Send me an email at amaryllisvr (at) gmail .com and let me know what you need it for and when.

I wrote about this female pioneer in my master thesis on VR art in 2017, so exciting to finally see the pieces in person.

I'm spending this week at OFF - Odense International Film Festival as a juror alongside these fine gentlemen.
Very excited to meet some of the most talented people in the scene and to celebrate contemporary film art.
Come talk to me about beauty and injustice if you're there.
As of this month, I've been working with Virtual Reality as a medium for visual expression for 8 years.
Where did time go?
