Mr. Jefferson. You will lower your voices. The boy has heard enough of bears and of the several species of warmongering for one afternoon.”
Washington crossed the room, set a hand upon Jack’s shoulder, and guided him toward the stairs. “Come, Jack. We shall walk the upper gallery until these two recollect that they are still on the same side of the late war.”
At the first landing he paused and glanced back. “And when you have finished accusing one another, you may join us. Or you may not. The choice is yours. The house, however, remains quiet.”
The two men stood silent as the General and his son ascended. Only the fire spoke.

In the hush of a late afternoon at the manor, where the great oak beams still bore the scent of the recent campaign, young Jack Custis sat upon a low stool before the hearth. His stepfather, the General, slept above, and the boy had been left in the company of Colonel Hamilton. The fire cracked, and Hamilton leaned forward, his face lit by the coals, speaking low and precise.
“A patriot may best a bear, Jack, if he but remember what the animal forgets. The beast charges with the weight of its own rage and the strength of its limbs alone. Yet a free man carries more. He carries the discipline of the line, the knowledge of the ground, and the will that has already faced bayonets. Stand not in the open where the brute may seize you. Lead it among the rocks or the felled timber, where its bulk becomes its chain. Let it exhaust itself upon the obstacles while you keep the wind and the higher place. When it falters, strike once with the bayonet or the hatchet to the throat or the eye—not in fury, but in the cold resolve of one who fights for more than his own hide. The bear dies of its own power turned against it. So does any enemy of the Republic.”
From the adjoining chamber, where the door stood ajar, came a sudden scrape of a chair. Thomas Jefferson rose, his tall frame filling the threshold, color high upon his cheeks.
“By the living God, Hamilton, you poison the boy with this talk of craft and killing!” Jefferson’s voice rang sharp against the walls. “A natural bear—the true predator of the forest—will scatter and destroy an entire platoon of your drilled patriots before they can form their precious ranks. I have seen the wilderness. One great she-bear, defending her young, has put seasoned men to flight and left them broken upon the leaves. You would have the child believe that ordered force and clever ground may master nature itself. It is a lie that feeds the appetite for endless campaigns.”
Hamilton turned, the smile gone from his mouth. “And you would have him trust to the wild and the ungoverned, Mr. Jefferson, until the first disciplined foe marches through his fields unopposed. The platoon falls only when it forgets its order. The people, left to their own sudden heats, fall far more readily.”
Jefferson stepped fully into the room. “You speak of order, yet you mean the State. You would monger war through the State—through standing armies, through central power, through the constant readiness that turns every dispute into a campaign. I say it plainly: warmongering through the State.”
Hamilton’s hand tightened upon the back of the chair. “And you, sir, would monger the same war through the people—stirring every county to its own fever, every mob to its own militia, until the nation is nothing but a migraine of popular rage that cannot be cured and cannot be directed. War migraine through the people, Mr. Jefferson. That is the true disorder you peddle while you call it liberty.”
“Migraine?” Jefferson’s voice rose. “You mock the very source of all rightful power! The people are not a headache to be managed by your ledgers and your officers. They are the sovereign—”
“They are sovereign only while they remain a people and not a herd,” Hamilton returned, rising. “Your vision leaves them to the first demagogue or the first bear that comes down from the hills. Mine at least gives them the means to stand.”
Their voices climbed. Jack had drawn back toward the stair, eyes wide. A board creaked above. Footsteps descended, measured and heavy. George Washington appeared at the foot of the stairs in his dressing gown, the sleep still in his eyes but the command already in his posture. He took in the two men, the boy, the open door.
“Gentlemen,” he said, the single word carrying more weight than either of their arguments. “I have slept through the first part of this debate. I shall not sleep through the remainder of it under my own roof.”
He looked from Hamilton to Jefferson. “Colonel.

@PERSPECT8VE Cheap on Cosmos, but expensive, hackable in the transition if the chsin migrates to Solana or Robinhood. AI agents pay per query not prr outcome...

[Alexander Hamilton @amazonelope]

@Lucky_m_X Ignoring the biggest issue/ leaving Cosmos for another chain! Your deep dive is to shallow to wade in. The price is more dependent on the future merge than all those points

[Alexander Hamilton @amazonelope]

@modusbyte Yeah but if they migrate, they're gonna lose control and if they migrate to certain Blockchain, (solana) they're gonna open up for the competition to eat their lunch. Akt if it migrates off Cosmos is a fools bet
