Unrelated, but that man in the white and black cap is Awilo, Oloye's driver. Over the years, he has become part of the Alabi family. He is one of the people closest to Oloye, and if you watched the way they relate, joke, and share banter, you probably wouldn't even know he is the driver.

Compare Nigeria at 65 years old with the United States at 65 years old.

Please match the ages, not the calendars. Nigeria became independent in 1960, so "Nigeria at 65" means today Oct 1st, 2025. The US declared independence in 1776, so "America at 65" means 1841, NOT modern America.

Compare 1841 America with present-day Nigeria.

Cover these areas:
1. Education
2. Living conditions
3. Infrastructure
4. Government
5. Economy
6. Others (technology, security, culture, anything else that matters)

Rules for the answer:

The Moon gets (almost all of) its light from the Sun.

That is the relationship between Mexico and the US.

Geography is destiny.

For instance, the United States biggest trading partner is not China. It is Mexico.

Can you imagine the amount of prosperity that brings to a country?

Many US companies set up factories in Mexico to take advantage of a relatively lax regulatory environment, and cheap labor.

A lot of Americans spend their hard-earned cash in many of the several tourists sites in Mexico.

And then of course, Mexicans living in the US send money home.

Their whole economy is geared towards servicing the US.

They do not see the US as an adversary or as a competitor.

They very much see them as a friendly, rich, generous neighbor, even if that neighbor can at times be condescending.

Again, think of Mexico as the Moon and the US as the Sun.

It makes sense for them to have the infrastructure to support the World Cup and for their economy to be big compared with other countries in Central and Latin America.

I’d say it’s the combined blessing and curse of being a developing-country-type sitting next to an America.

Much of Mexico’s prosperity depends on the US - as much as 80% of their exports go to America; Mexican migrants send home tens of billions of dollars in remittances annually. There’s also the more than 10 million tourists who come from America annually.

So much value from being next door.

And yet the vast disparities in wealth (GDP per capita) mean that its deficiencies will always be somewhat exaggerated by that same proximity.

Mexico confuses me as a country.

It is the country that has hosted the World Cup the most. 3X. Says something about its infrastructure. And clout.

It is also a top 15 country in the world by GDP.

It is also a member of OECD and G20, the prestigious comities of prosperous nations.

Decent indicators of economic clout and prosperity.

Yet, it is somehow a butt of joke, especially to Americans. Treated like a poor neighbour you don't want to mix with, you chase away from your borders. And their people running away to America by all means.

I used to think being a good man would make people treat me better. Lol.
Naivety dey pain die.

I learned the hard way that goodness is not a currency people are obligated to honor. Some people will take your kindness and study it for weaknesses. Some will mistake your patience for foolishness. Some will stay only because you keep giving and leave the moment giving stops.

Being good was never the problem. My mistake was thinking it came with guarantees that decency would be reciprocated, that loyalty would be returned, that effort would be matched. Life doesn’t work that way. Character is not a transaction. You don’t do good to receive good. You do good because it’s who you have decided to be, regardless of how people respond to it.

Now I understand: protect your peace, set boundaries, give from a place of fullness not desperation. Stay good. But stay wise too. The two are not opposites but they’re partners.

Goodness without discernment is just an open door for anybody to walk through and waste your time.

Be guided accordingly.
