The LEARNS Act does not provide the same protections in every educational setting for students with disabilities. It creates a two-tiered system in which private schools receive state funding but do not have to follow the same rules as public schools. It is appalling that in 2024, the State of Arkansas is willing to give $6.5 million dollars to a provider (@EasterSealsAR) instead of using the money to further expand existing services in public schools, thus further weaking public schools in Arkansas. We want to increase educational possibilities and fairness for all Arkansas students and their families.

LEARNS Act Strikes Again...Last year, @EasterSealsAR highlighted how the LEARNS Act would significantly increase the financial burden on parents of children with disabilities, doubling their costs to attend their school.* Now, not only is the state paying to help build their new school ** but the students with disabilities are paying the cost and being forced back into separate educational settings. This represents a regressive step for the progress of our students in Arkansas.
