Because if Nicki is Lombardi, and Cardi is the QB, then Nicki is deliberately establishing a hierarchy of roles in the metaphor. They're not necessarily peers being compared in the same role.

And the line doesn't say:
“If Cardi the QB, I'm passing her the torch.”

It says:
“If Cardi the QB, I'm Nick Lombardi.”

That's a direct analogy: Cardi occupies one football role; Nicki identifies herself with another.
The “passing the torch to the next generation” theory is possible as a broader interpretation, but it's not proof that Nicki was saying Cardi outranks her or that Nicki is retiring/handing over her position. You don't need to argue that Nicki was insulting Cardi. You can argue that the bar can simultaneously acknowledge Cardi's position and reaffirm Nicki's own legendary/championship status. That's actually a much more sophisticated reading.
