Glad to co-chair the inaugural meeting of Group of Friends on Safety & Security of Shipping & Seafarers, along with Liberia FM Sara Beysolow Nyanti #GoFonS4 #UNGA81

✅ Highlighted that commercial shipping and mariners have been subjected to repeated attacks in the Gulf, the Red Sea, the Black Sea and other regions in the last few months.

✅ Pointed out that such attacks disrupt maritime commerce and have cost innocent lives, including of Indian nationals.

✅ Emphasized that the disruption from attacks has also led to prolonged confinement of seafarers on board, delayed crew changes & repatriation, separation from families, and psychological distress.

✅ Stressed that there is a need for stronger and closer cooperation between the international community in order to close ranks and deter such attacks.

✅ Shared that PM Modi proposed establishing a Seafarers Emergency Support Network during the recent BRICS Summit, which could connect the Maritime authorities and Embassies of countries concerned, facilitating distress alerts, medical assistance, communication with families, and support for evacuation.

A positive beginning today towards our vision of making the #GoFonS4 an inclusive platform bringing together major ship-owning member states, countries with largest numbers of ship registries, and those who provide the maximum seafarers.

25 years on from the horrific 9/11 attacks, we remember and honour the victims and stand in solidarity with the families whose lives were forever changed.

Terrorism has claimed countless lives around the world. As a victim of cross-border terrorism, India has been at the forefront of this fight for several decades.

While the threat keeps evolving, our resolve and opposition to terrorism in all its forms and manifestations remain unwavering. We stand in solidarity with all efforts to combat this scourge.

Proud to share that India’s INDBATT-II, deployed with UNISFA in Abyei from 2024 to 2025, has been recognized by the @UN and @UNPeacekeeping for their outstanding service, professionalism, courage and dedication.

The Battalion executed a precise and disciplined hostage rescue operation in May of 2024, extracting UN personnel and civilians who had been taken hostage and recovered hijacked UN vehicles, marking the first such recovery in @UNISFA_1 ’s history.

Subsequently, in 2025 the Battalion provided safe haven to 103 villagers fleeing inter communal violence, helping prevent further escalation and restoring confidence among affected communities; and throughout its tenure it delivered medical exams to over 3,000 people in remote areas of Abyei where access to healthcare remained limited.

Delivered India's statement at the UNSC Open Debate on the Security Council's Role in Mitigating Global and Local Food Crises.

Made following points:

1️⃣ Highlighted that food insecurity is a consequence of conflict, political instability and underdevelopment, not their root cause.

2️⃣ The Security Council should focus on mitigating the humanitarian consequences of conflict; the UNGA, ECOSOC, UN Development system and Rome-based agencies should lead the long term response to food insecurity.

3️⃣ Also reiterated the need to preserve the safety and freedom of navigation for commercial shipping in accordance with international law. Secure and predictable maritime trade routes are indispensable for the uninterrupted movement of food, fertilisers and fuel.

4️⃣ Also shared India's efforts, like the National Food Security Act that provides statutory entitlement for subsidised food grains. The PM-KISAN has strengthened the economic resilience of small and marginal farmers and the International Year of Millets in 2023 catalysed global attention on climate-resilient, nutrient-rich crops for diversified food security.
