Nah, he wasn’t the unifying force. He just had the biggest microphone, and he was the first chapter of the hybrid experiment.

The real difference was that his opposition still played within the system. They stayed in assemblies, showed up, and attacked him where he was weakest: governance and administrative performance.

PTI is not playing by those rules now. They barely function in assemblies, attendance is dead, participation is weak, and KP’s performance is so poor that the party is left with one political routine: sit on Adiala Road, make noise, and go back home.

That’s not federal unity. That’s a movement surviving on grievance, personality worship, and institutional chaos.

I agree that enforced disappearances and mistreatment of families in Balochistan must be addressed. No citizen should have to beg for basic due process or wait years for missing family members to return.

At the same time, any serious rights movement also has to openly condemn the killing of civilians, including Punjabi workers and passengers targeted by separatist militants. That moral line matters.

My issue with Mahrang’s politics is that she could have built a stronger path by condemning extremist violence just as firmly as state abuse. That would have made her case harder to dismiss and helped separate genuine human rights work from militancy.

That said, life imprisonment through an anti-terrorism process still feels like an extremely harsh state response. She has the right to appeal, and Pakistan needs a political solution that protects Baloch families, rejects ethnic violence, and does not turn every dissenting voice into an enemy.
