Amelia helps a tad with painting the other chips of wood and whatever else should be coated white. As they watch paint dry she eats from a snack bag. "What color next?" she asks, as she reaches around for more paint jars.
'Patience' is not a virtue usually ascribed to Ven, but she's got enough of it to pull this off, at least. She gets the base coat applied with minimal incident, and then it's just a waiting game until it's time for the next step. Until then, snacks and drinks can be had.
It's simple work. Amelia hangs her coat by the door and walks Venlana through preparing the paint and applying it. It's a matter of patience. She's content to watch Venlana work, although at some point she decides to rummage through the korchen for snacks.
"Base coat. Alright." Once offered, she takes the brush and pulls up a chair. She doesn't ever really paint, so she's just going to focus on following Amelia's instructions throughout this process until it's time to get creative.
Amelia nods. She finds her paint brush and lays out a tin of white paint. "We paint a base coat and let it sit." Luckily, the base coat is one of the most forgiving. Amelia flips the brush around in offering. Only after the base coat is set can they add other colors and details.
Ven would disagree, but her arms are full of wood, so she can't pull her own wallet out in time and has to watch helplessly as Amelia pays for her. Undoubtedly, she'll find a way to pay Amelia back, no matter how much Amelia refuses.
Back in Ven's apartment, it's late but... +
"Wood is on me," she says as she fishes for her wallet. The owner tries to sell them on a few other pieces but this is more than enough. Amelia pays in full and they walk back to her apartment with armfuls of wooden chunks. By the time they arrive it's well into the night.
Ven's gone back and forth on her ideas a few times over the course of this trip, but by the end she's whittled it down to the main block and a few other pieces that have interesting shapes. She lugs them all in her arms as she nods at Amelia. "Yeah, I'm ready."
Amelia spends her time searching for hidden goodies and speaking with the owner, who wants to talk about the festival, and the cooling temperatures that make it good for business. Eventually, she's happy with what little she's found, and checks on Venlana. "Ready?"
"Hmm. I'll have to think about it." Her imagination was the limit, and she wanted to explore it; this was the time of year for that, after all. She goes around, holding various scraps up to the main block, as if visualizing the possibilities in her mind's eye.
Amelia nods. There are a few smaller scraps on the ground. She picks them up for demonstration's sake. Some are almost curved and would make for convincing fins or leaves. "You could make any kind of monster," she says. "When we carve this there will be lots of leftover scraps."
Ven was the opposite, always willing to start a fight, but she knew that wasn't exactly a good way to show the Vanguard she could be trusted with field work, so she refrained. One good mission would hopefully be all she needed to prove herself, though.
