๐จ๐จ 20 years of cardiac arrest in Victoria in @theMJA: Utstein survival increased threefold bw 2003โ2022 [but] the C19 pandemic was associated with a significant reduction in survival @emandrew1 @Ziad_Nehme1 @expensivecare@RosscoSalathiel@prof_cameron https://t.co/9lNTfd05SG
@GongGasGirl @JudkinsSimon I would have thought that the pandemic showed everyone the need to have capacity for production of critical medical items/medication, but nothing much seems to have changed.
@OneArmWonder@DrLindaDykes Provide optimal compression. Over time, humans will end up having a greater fraction of effective compressions as hand position changes, than mCPR which gets left in the one (possibly less than ideal) spot.
If anyone wants to spot me a TEE probe and co-author a paper, hit me up!
@OneArmWonder@DrLindaDykes Not what the evidence shows though: https://t.co/whrHT7akKa
My anecdotal experience is that the plunger devices are absolutely brutal.
I also suspect (without evidence) that humans not being consistent is not necessarily all bad. If mCPR isn't in the right spot it will not 1/x
Shout out to all of our @AmbulanceVic#Paramedic colleagues starting their night shifts at the beginning of a long weekend in #Victoria.
We see you.
And we appreciate you!
Hope the nights arenโt too brutal.
@DrLindaDykes That's for any device mind you. None have ever shown benefit, even in industry sponsored (and obviously open label ๐คช) trials which should favour them. All real world studies show worse outcomes
@KangarooBeach Brilliant! I recently missed out on an opportunity because I didn't state that I have a driver's licence. The same licence I have been specifically paid an allowance for over the last 20 years that let's me, you know, drive the ambulances for them... ๐
Moral injury in medicine: Why doctors are burning out
Today's practicing physicians find themselves grappling with burnout. Witnessing how our cherished medical community has succumbed to moral injury and compromised its values is disheartening and confounding. This troubling phenomenon appears intrinsically tied to the shifting landscape of employment within our profession, where the erosion of autonomy has become increasingly evident.
This issue transcends mere statistics, speaking to a deeper systemic imbalance. At its core lies a troubling power dynamic, with employers assuming disproportionate control over the practice of medicine. This encroachment on our autonomy undermines the very essence of our profession, leaving us grappling with diminished agency and a sense of disempowerment.

@DrJeffJarvis@OneArmWonder Absolutely true. We are primed for instant gratification and cannot go slowly even when we know we should.
That's why our TXA gets put in a bag of 100ml NaCl (or D5W) and delivered over an amount of time longer than 'instantly'
Other stuff gets run through a syringe pump.
