The problem with Disney nowadays is that they fundamentally don’t understand human psychology.

If you want to produce movies featuring diverse characters with strong female role models, you absolutely can. There are hundreds of stories and thousands of writers to make those films great and lucrative too. We want them. We will watch them.

However, you cannot take nostalgic folk tales like Snow White and inject modern worldviews and PC agendas into them. It will bomb every time.

For one thing, nobody likes getting preached to. It feels condescending. When your messaging is clunky and overt, it comes off like propaganda. You need to communicate your ideas in a more subtle, creative, friendly, and interesting way.

CGI characters are also not relatable. There’s this Uncanny Valley aspect that distracts from the story, making the movie feel disjointed. CGI is great for dragons and evil aliens, but real actors are 500% better for any character we’re supposed to relate with. The dwarves … I cannot love the CGI dwarves. They’re creepy.

But also, people generally don’t like change. Injecting modern ideologies or PC politics into a classic tale, is like baking grandma’s timeless green bean casserole and putting kale in it.

Sure, kale is healthy. And maybe your ideological or political ideas are great too. But nobody wants kale in gramma’s green bean casserole.

When it comes to classics like Snow White, we want the nostalgic comfort-food recipe we all remember and love. Nobody cares if it’s 500 calories. We want to be taken back to our childhoods. We want to relive the happy memory, not your reinterpretation of it.

As cute as she is, by casting a politically outspoken, divisive, and narcissistic actress - among other things - Disney put kale in Snow White. It’s just not fun anymore. We can’t watch the movie without thinking about her opinions, and that’s a shame.
