‼️An Afghan resistance group has claimed responsibility for the killing of Abdullah Ghaznawi in Kabul city.

According to the group’s statement, Ghaznawi was not just a former Taliban intelligence official. He was described as a close aide to Abdul Haq Wasiq, the Taliban’s General Director of Intelligence. The group also linked him to the Taliban’s influential Kandahar faction, one of the core power centers within the movement.

🔺The killing of a senior intelligence insider, in the heart of Kabul, signals a growing problem for the Taliban.

1. Security breach in the capital: Ghaznawi’s death in Kabul shows that resistance cells are able to penetrate the city’s security layers and target high-profile figures connected to the Taliban’s intelligence apparatus. If even Wasiq’s close associates aren’t safe, it raises questions about how much control the Taliban actually have.

2. Internal factional exposure: By specifically naming the Kandahar faction, the resistance is highlighting fractures within the Taliban. Kandahar has long been the Taliban’s ideological and leadership base. An attack on someone tied to that faction suggests the resistance is going after the Taliban’s core, not just foot soldiers.

3. Eroding authority: Targeted assassinations of former officials who worked directly under the intelligence chief point to intelligence leaks, infiltration, and a loss of operational secrecy. That’s exactly the kind of pressure that makes a regime look vulnerable.

In short: this isn’t just the death of one official. It’s being framed by the resistance as proof that the Taliban’s control, even in Kabul and even within their own intelligence ranks, is slipping.
