This is excellent advice for anyone who cares about their heritage. It is especially important because you are surrounded by so many conflicting cultures. With my husband's career in the UN, we knew we would be moving around a lot, so we made some very deliberate decisions.
Our children have no English names, only Igbo names.
We came home at least every other December, at the beginning it was every year. Keeping children grounded in their culture abroad is very crucial for their self confidence. When you know where you are coming from and who you are, it is easier to navigate where you are and where you want to go to.
On a broader level, this is why Nigerians who have grown up in Nigeria before they relocate tend to do well and adjust better. When the "Naija no dey carry last" spirit is embodied in a positive way, it is always beautiful to behold.
It is especially commendable when one parent is not Nigerian. @nwanyi_ocha, well done! Ji s'ike.
