@EmmausWire And isn’t it interesting that now Bab al-Mandab is part of the discourse—the region “sits on many waters”, which are demonstrably in play. The maritime dimension of it all, perhaps not something we focus on much, is so evident right now.
@thetiki71 “The inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the creation of the world will be astonished when they see the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will come.”
Revelation 17:8 NIV
The premise of your question is that salvation could be lost by not doing enough to hold on to it (works). That would totally be a faith + works salvation. But that’s not the basis on which salvation can be lost. It can be lost by consciously and deliberately rejecting Christ. By walking away. This is contrasted with “continuing” in Christ, “holding on” to the end, or “overcoming”. For example:
“but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.”
Hebrews 3:6 NASB1995
“if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.”
Colossians 1:23 NASB1995
“Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.”
Romans 11:22 NASB1995
“For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end,”
Hebrews 3:14 NASB1995
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it.’”
Revelation 2:17 NASB1995
“But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.”
Matthew 24:13 NASB1995
I now think it’s more likely the nations will make their own multilateral agreement. It would allow them to include Iran, which is making conciliatory noises toward its neighbours, and avoid the perception they have all have been strong armed into something by the US. That larger Mideast pact may then enter into some form of agreement with Israel. The result would be broad peace without Iran having to directly enter an agreement with Israel.
