This @NigelJaquiss piece on whistleblowers who exposed Neil Goldschmidt gets at an uncomfortable truth. Adults tend to protect other adults. In theory everyone is against child abuse, but in practice, standing up for children can be a lonely experience. https://t.co/3pNfvA55qs
Only Alaska has fewer retail pharmacies per capital than Oregon. Shout to to AP for the smart analysis and
@antonio__sierra who has covered this issue in Eastern Oregon for the past year. https://t.co/7ewFECNKle

@bob4portland@SMeieran@multco I stared from that assumption too. But after a lot of conversations, i think overdoses are a smaller component of the strain on the EMS system than most Portlanders assume. I think an aging, sicker population is a big (and less covered-to-death by the media) factor.
There’s no excuse for the false & misleading information shared by @Multco about decreasing cardiac arrest survival rates. No “mistakes” were made except getting caught. Thx @ameliaOPB for digging deep, telling this story and exposing the truth! https://t.co/Zv5Sh1UWAX
The number of #H5N1#birdflu infected dairy herds continues to rise. @USDA added 5 today, 3 in SD & 2 in Colorado. Michigan announced +3 which USDA hasn't yet put on its list but I've added here because Michigan's doing a bang-up job finding/reporting herds.
Total = 66.
@TianaTozer@alex_zee Voters hold people accountable, and I try to make sure voters have reliable information to base their judgements on. That's the point!
People were less likely to survive a cardiac arrest in Multnomah county in 2023. There were about 18 more deaths than the year before. If you care about the quality and speed of ambulance service in this city, please read - and share - this story. https://t.co/VEE5fUJT2K
ICYMI yesterday: Survival rates for cardiac arrest in Multnomah County dipped last year. The county brushed this off as a result of overdoses.
OPB pressed on suspect data to reveal slow ambulances are a more likely culprit.

.@CDCgov says this individual, like the man in Texas, had only one symptom — infection in the eye. A nasal swab tested negative for #H5N1#birdflu.
Wear goggles in those barns, folks!
The cardiac arrest survival rate in Multnomah county dropped by about 3 percentage points last year. Last month, the county’s EMS medical director said overdoses were the reason - not the quality of our ambulance service.
@alex_zee Alex, this is too kind. I'm pretty sure I'm supremely difficult to sit across from when I'm working on something that really grabs me. Thank you for putting up with all my preoccupations and weird muttering!
Everything I need to know about bird flu I learned from @HelenBranswell This story (all her reporting really) is worth your time.

1. Listening to an @ASTHO - @IDSAInfo - @CSTEnews webinar on #H5N1#birdflu in cows.
Of interest so far:
— @USDA is monitoring feral swine; no detections of H5 so far.
— in the "small number" of samples tested to date, doesn't look like cows are shedding virus thru feces.
I met Lou Whittaker 11 years ago, to record his memories of the Paradise Ice Caves on Mt. Rainier for an Oregon Field Guide doc. We ended up spending a day hanging out with Lou and Ingrid, learning about their amazing hand-built home. Will never forget his generosity, and spark.
