Our province's museums tell our stories, attract visitors, and connect our communities.
As a young girl, I used to love spending Saturdays at the museum on Duckworth Street — so it was certainly full circle to spend this weekend with @museumsnl at their Annual Conference!
@ManuelsRiver This is a mourning cloak butterfly, Nymphalis antiopa, also called Camberwell beauty in Britain. It is a native insect and overwinters as an adult butterfly. They are commonly seen on a warm spring day, looking rather ragged from overwintering.
@MUNFLA_Archive Juniper (Juniperus horizontalis) is actually not larch /tamarack (Larix laricina). In Nfld, we often mix up common names & mistakenly call L. larcinia "juniper", but they are not the same. Larch is a deciduous conifer. Juniper is an evergreen which produces berry-lie cones.
@ianhanomansing I am like most in this thread: imperial for body weight & height, combo of both for food & cooking etc., weather in metric, & ha-ha, didn't realize until I read the comments that I measure distances in time not length. I was a child when Metric came in, but my 25 yr old is same.

Years ago, I found this district court clipping from 1880 where a worker used the existence of fairies to argue for lost wages. The best part is, the guy won! And no one involved, including the judge, seemed to deny the existence of fairies. #FolkloreThursday@FolkloreThurs
It makes sense, then, to create a pathway to engage #children in #fishing! The younger we are when we connect to #nature, the more likely we will choose conservation careers or behaviours; we will experience better mental & physical health, & do better in school. #YouthEngagement
