Given his background and expertise of @amer_masood, he was asked to reflect on how bringing together political, religious and civil opposition together could be the first step in a national dialogue - a cornerstone strategy of the West on Afghanistan - as the national dialogue would be key for the political settlement in the country? The process of Western intervention in 2001 did not result in a process of political settlement to address deeply entrenched issues the country faces. Mr Amer argued that “neutral mediation” is key for the beginning of the “national dialogue” - given the challenges and complexities involved. Divergent views need to be included and impartiality ensured.
