The pharisee's were so sure of their own righteousness, they were certain the messiah would associate only with them. Also they really didn't believe Moses and the prophets . There are more reasons, but it boils down to pride and vanity, same as today.

I’m not a defender of the Pharisees, but people often ask me if the Pharisees were waiting and praying for the Messiah, why didn’t they recognize the Messiah when He came? Consider this:

If Yeshua returned right now it would be the termination of the Christian religious establishment. Beginning with Rome there’d be no more Pope and the Vatican would be finished. Orthodox Christianity would fall apart and cease to exist. Mega-churches would be left empty and nobody would gather around the celebrity Pastors. There simply would be no need for any of it anymore.

Exactly the situation faced by the Pharisees 2000 years ago in Israel. Of course there were a few good ones here and there. They weren’t all bad. But often times, the gatekeepers neither enter the gate themselves nor allow anyone else to enter.

who remain faithful in ministry, faithful in marriage, faithful to God everyday without fame, fortune, or social media standing.

Many could have had lucrative careers elsewhere, but stayed faithful to the call.

The Greek word καί (kai) has long been butchered into irrelevance in English biblical translations

Semantically, the original Koine Greek καί (kai) does not only mean "and". It is a suite of conjunctions which also contains; even, to wit, that is, as in, expressly, which is, also, namely, etc

It does not exclusively mean "in addition to" like how the English word "and" is supposed to

To put it into context, 1 Cor 8:6 can be read as: One God the Father, καί (namely) One Lord Jesus Christ.
