@Sydney_Supple Olympic Games only allow 15 players on a national team roster so pitchers that can hit is a huge advantage. You sure you want this rule to change?
@RFoore Couldn't agree more buddy. I loved the energy on the field when Esmee played NCAA D1 but I was kinda ashamed by comments made by some parents in the stands to officials and other teams. Just cheer on your kid and enjoy them playing the game.
@CoachKnerem Comply with international softball rules. World Cup, Olympics are all at 230ft. Statcast shows 44% of all hr's hit in NCAA won't clear the fence at the global stage
Beth Mowins talking about how a lot of people don’t like what Texas Tech has done in the portal
“Pay Women” they say. Except when Texas Tech does it then they all get petty and mad
Fk em… LFG
Never before have we had more data before the game relative to the best pitch to call/throw to each hitter in each situation. Our familiarity with our pitchers has never been better. With that being said, the best strategy is to “pitch off response.” That doesn’t eliminate the pregame scouting & prep work. What it does do is put you in the moment which is often more significant than the historical past tense game plan. This is not earth shattering because when the game starts most everyone is relying on their eyes over their IPads. The big three “pitch off response” factors are:
1) What pitch did I throw/call & how did my pitcher throw it.
2) How did the hitter react to the pitch I threw.
3) Where is the hitter’s “attention zone”( Perry Husband term) on the next pitch.
AN EXAMPLE
1) Pitcher bounces a BB in the dirt.
2) Hitter is in balance & takes the pitch which indicates he is probably looking off speed.
3) Throw another breaking ball because it gives the pitcher a chance to adjust off the previous BB in the dirt & the hitter’s “attention zone” is coming off an off speed pitch & his timing is set on fastball.
LOS OF POTENTIAL SCENARIOS HERE IF YOU “PITCH OFF RESPONSES.” ULTIMATELY, IN ORDER TO BE SUCCESSFUL, YOU HAVE TO EXECUTE PITCHES & THE QUALITY OF THE PITCH IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE TYPE OF PITCH.
Don’t do this:
❌ Turn around
❌ Look over to the dugout and shrug like “idk he’s blind”
❌ Be combative with the umpire
Instead, handle it like a pro (like @okay_lex):
✅ Keep the tempo up
✅ Face forwards
✅ Have a pre-determined way to communicate with the coach
✅ Be on the same team (nod)
✅ Understand a makeup call will come later
✅ Keep competing
