You can be pro porn and anti misogyny. Is there a lot of misogyny in porn? Of course. It's a problem. I think there are so many important conversations to be had about porn and the ethical implications of how it's executed. However, simply saying "porn bad" does not solve the systemic issues reflected in porn, and every other type of media we consume.

I think this fear of porn, is resulting in a Neo-puritanism that says all sex that is not happening in missionary, between committed partners, is degrading to women. That's just not true.

This has also trickled into kink. Kink is not inherently degrading to women either. In fact, in a good sub/dom kink dynamic, the "sub" (maybe a woman, maybe not) is in full control. Boundaries, and limits are all discussed ahead of time, giving the submissive the opportunity to completely let go and trust the other party to operate within those boundaries. A lot of men watch kink content, with no conception of the consent involved, and then enact kink onto women that didn't ask for it. I can see how that would warp a person's view on it.

I just hope that in our pursuit of equity, and protections for women, we don't shut down sexuality altogether out of fear. Women are sexual beings. Women watch porn. Women make porn. Women love kink. You may not. That is okay. However, demonizing those spaces doesn't remove them. It only makes them less safe and more taboo. Bring it out into the light, and you can see it for all its parts. It's then up to us to decide what parts need replacing.
