Hey look: Toronto just got the six-month report from the non-police Community Crisis Support Team pilot and 78% of calls were diverted without involving police. Imagine if we gave that a $50 million raise. Instead, it's an increase of maybe $3 million*. https://t.co/IlHrrUnTvu
From me today: Senior city staff told council in May that security guards hired to prevent park encampments wouldn't make arrests. But procurement docs list arrests and "physically removing individuals" as among the guards "major responsibilities" https://t.co/5csmaQgApn
Really important five minutes on the radio. As @MooreintheAM notes, this data puts the story @bradrossTO and @JohnTory have repeatedly insisted is true about shelters and homelessness into very serious question. https://t.co/cVEnOnYzxZ
We obtained more info via FOI
👉48,111 callers told no shelter available for them when called
👉 at least 28,878 people unable to access space in Toronto’s shelter system
👉Q2 2022 Avg of 83 ppl/day unable to access a bed

ICYMI: We released an interim report with early recommendations that we believe the City should act on immediately to improve the fairness of their response to encampments. Visit https://t.co/U0QgeNS2xB to learn about our recommendations and what we found during our investigation
We are grateful to all those who spoke with us for this investigation and shared their complaints with us. We know it is not always easy. Thank you. Highlights from the report are available in the attached image. The full report is available at https://t.co/gbzDub6Kq8 (7/7)
Thanks for following!
As Wednesday is the 1 year anniversary of the "militarized" clearing of Trinity Bellwoods, we thought we would release 10 more documents not covered so far by reporting on FOI documents we have obtained.
We will tweet them individually, then thread.
Police and City officials, as so often, tried to deny knowledge at Trinity Bellwoods (and later at Lamport) that they used chemical attacks against unhoused people and their supporters.
They knew.

"In other words, the system logged 253 fire events in 2020, which simply reflects the number of times TFS showed up to encampments, not the actual number of fires requiring suppression."

NEW: Freedom of Information documents show the City of Toronto’s efforts to control the media narrative around encampment evictions last summer – inflating the number of fires in encampments and using media exclusion zones.
