I was very fortunate to visit my Uncle today β€οΈ
This is the Uncle I talk about a lot - as an early influence in my career.
My Dad called this morning and said things took a turn for the worse and he was going to visit him today.
I had planned to visit by weeks end anyway.
I used to push stuff off and plan around market hours my whole life.
Instead, non negotiable, I went today. Forget the market.
I was able to tell him he changed my life.
I thanked him for being a mentor to me.
I thanked him for inspiring me.
I thanked him for sharing his entrepreneurial wisdom with me at such an early age.
I thanked him for being there for me in 2009 when I went to $0 and had to restart from scratch.
Growing up, I was surrounded by 9 to 5's. There's nothing wrong with that but it wasn't in my DNA.
I didn't know many people who owned a business or who were entrepreneurs but I knew that's where I was headed.
Each summer we'd visit my Aunt and Uncle. We'd do the Cape Cod beach thing, boat thing, head off to Martha's Vineyard etc.
He worked hard but played harder.
I knew early on he had a business and was into stocks so all I knew I wanted to get into "stocks" (whatever that meant).
At first, it was possibly working for a broker? I didn't really know. Later on, when I worked at Staples they were doing really well, and I wanted to invest in them. I didn't have a brokerage account.
My Uncle said if I wanted to give him a check he would buy the stock for me and whenever I wanted to sell, let him know and he'd sell and give me the proceeds.
In that same breath he said "Better yet, why not just open an account? And buy it yourself?" It was at that very moment that I chose to open an account. In fact, I still remember vividly standing in the kitchen at my childhood home discussing it.
My Uncle was active in the markets his entire life while running various businesses where he played middle man importing garments for retailers.
After he "retired" he'd watch the market every day.
We used to chat on AIM Messenger for years but once they canned that program we stopped chatting as much, and he was an AOL email guy, for life.
Whatever the next holiday was I said look, bring your laptop out, I'll install Telegram and show you how to use it and that will be our new AIM Messenger.
After that, every morning up to 87 years old "Nate what are we trading today?"
We would text most mornings until last year when it became a bit hard for him to focus on the screens.
I am who I am today in part due to him seeing whatever he saw in me and keeping that dialogue open.
Life is short.
Use your time wisely.
Who can you inspire?
Who can you take under your wing?
Who can you help?
Don't wait.
He passed on my way home, 30 minutes after I left.

STUDENT APPRECIATION POST: I am just SO grateful for all my students as they have made the #stockmarket & #stocktrading so much more fulfilling teaching others what Iβve learned over the past 2 decades. I truly canβt thank everyone enough, should we do more inperson conferences!
First video of the trading-truck build is complete!
Been hard at work on this and can't wait to keep documenting the progress. Would love to have y'all check out the video and join me on this journey to trade from anywhere!
