For years the Bharatiya Janata Party has failed to understand Punjab’s political DNA. Raising Article 370 here may excite its national base, but in Punjab it raises uncomfortable questions about federalism and central overreach.

The anger over the Indian farm laws is still fresh. Punjab’s farmers saw them as a direct assault on their economic structure. Trust, once broken at that scale, does not return with speeches.

Add to that the push for cultural uniformity through ideas like One Nation, One Language and the larger Hindutva narrative. Punjab’s identity has always resisted homogenisation.

The reality is simple: the BJP to expand its base would have to dilute many of the very positions that define it nationally. And doing that risks alienating its own core ideological support.

Punjab cannot be governed through ideological templates designed elsewhere.

Time and again, he has been forced to take back what he once proclaimed with great confidence. His repeated flip-flops reflect not just inconsistency, but a lack of vision and credibility.

Bhagwant Mann’s “shoot and scoot” style of politics—making loud proclamations one day and quietly backtracking the next—has become his trademark. What makes it worse is the conviction with which he speaks these lines, reminding us of the saying:

“A fool is always confident, while the wise are full of doubt.”

Or as Abraham Lincoln once put it, “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.”

In Mann’s case, his words may win headlines for a day, but sooner or later, he is left with nothing but the bitter taste of eating them.

Spare Panjab University from Divisive Politics

Panjab University is not just an academic institution — it is a symbol of unity, shared history, and brotherhood. Generations of students from diverse backgrounds have come here to learn, to grow, and most importantly, to build lifelong bonds rooted in mutual respect and friendship.

To now drag this university into the murky waters of identity politics by proposing to rename it for political appeasement is nothing short of a betrayal. This demand is neither born from the students nor does it reflect the spirit and character of this institution. It is a calculated attempt to divide, to provoke, and to disturb the peaceful, inclusive environment PU has nurtured over decades.

Those supporting such moves must understand — this is not representation, this is rupture. It is not inclusion, it is intrusion. By imposing political agendas on a space that has historically risen above them, we are not honouring heritage, we are dishonouring it.

Let Panjab University remain what it is: a temple of knowledge, not a battleground for petty politics.

As I saw pictures of @harjotbains in newspaper today meeting @nitin_gadkari and requesting projects, it is important to bring his and local Ropar MLA’s attention to a bridge which has been closed for one and half years due to the negligence and no repair work. This is under your jurisdiction which finds no place in your scheme of things.
