Sandeep’s condition was not good, & the move in such a state not only compromised the care he was getting but impacted him psychologically as well. Who should we hold accountable for the unnecessary changes in his beds and that too to sub-standard facilities? (10/11)
How can Apollo keep moving a serious patient to a progressively deteriorating ICU facility? While his stay at 2nd ICU facility (28 May onwards) cud be the reason for his lung infections, Apollo’s decision to move him yet again to another ICU facility on 8 June proved fatal. (9/11)
When me & my sis-in-law (Sandeep’s wife) went to see him, we were shocked to see the ICU facility area. There was hardly any isolation between patients, & it was tough to walk as well. It was clear that it lacked staff, facilities, & was unclean and poorly maintained. (8/11)
I called the duty doctor. He assured us that patient is stable & is upset due to ICU psychosis triggered by his longish stay at the hospital. Nothing to worry he said. However, within the next few hours, we got the call from Apollo that the patient has kidney failure. (7/11)
Next day @ 5 am Sandeep made an SOS call to mom & said sth that will haunt us. He said that this is his last call & that Apollo didn’t care for him during the previous 24 hrs.He added that this new ICU's condition is pathetic & that they will be responsible for his death. (6/11)
But the staff was completely occupied in shifting process. It was also the first instance in his 25 days at Apollo that the treating doctor didn't call. This was particularly distressing as we knew that he required intense care after the lung infection detected on 6th June. (5/11)
My brother got very upset as the condition of the ICU was pathetic with hardly any isolation b/w beds. The shift worsened his already deteriorating physical situation.I made several unsuccessful attempts to connect to the hospital staff on 8th for an update on his health. (4/11)
Then on 6th June, he was diagnosed with secondary infections in his lungs with two big cavities. The infection was likely a result of poor isolation in the new ICU facility. Quite unexpectedly, on 8th June, he was again shifted to another ICU (bed# 3223). (3/11)
Over the next 13 days, his health improved, & the oxygen support came down steadily. On 28th May, he was shifted to another Covid ICU (bed# 5204). Sandeep was disappointed with the new ICU facility area as it was congested compared to the previous ICU. (2/11)
Amit writes, "my brother Dr Sandeep Agrawal had a Covid infection. He was admitted to Covid medical ICU (Bed# 2117) on 15/05/21 @HospitalsApollo Indraprastha,Delhi (registration# APD1.0011185749). The ICU facility area had sufficient isolation b/w Covid patients. (1/11)
My friend Amit, lost his brother Sandeep Agrawal on 9th June to Covid. In this thread, I am copying below a heart-wrenching note that Amit shared that show @HospitalsApollo's callousness & apathy that cost Sandeep his life. Sandeep was a doctor & a fine soul. We will miss him.
