ನಮ್ಮ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಂಗಣದ ಹೆಸರಿರೋದು ಎಂ. ಚಿನ್ನಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರ ಹೆಸರಲ್ಲಿ. ಅಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಘಟಾನುಘಟಿ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಪಟುಗಳಿದ್ದ ನಮ್ಮ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂತಹ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಸ್ಥಾವರಕ್ಕೆ ಇವರ ಹೆಸರಿರಬೇಕಾದರೆ ಈ ಮಹನೀಯರ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ ಎಂತದ್ದಿಬಹುದು!

ಮಂಗಳಂ ಚಿನ್ನಸ್ವಾಮಿ 1900 ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 29ರಂದು ಮಂಡ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು.

ವೃತ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಕೀಲರಾದ ಚಿನ್ನಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರು 1925ರಿಂದ 1975ರವರೆಗೆ ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿ ವಕೀಲಿ ವೃತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿದವರು. ಅವರು ಅನೇಕ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಾನೂನು ತಜ್ಞರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಎಂಇಎಸ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಹೀಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಅಪಾರ ದುಡಿದರು.

ಚಿನ್ನಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ನಿರ್ವಾಹಕರಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧರಾದವರು. ಅವರು ಬ್ಯಾಟಿಂಗ್ ಬೌಲಿಂಗ್ ಮಾಡಿದವರಲ್ಲ. 1952-53 ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಷನ್ ಮತ್ತು ಆರ್ಮಿ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳ ಪಂದ್ಯದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಭಿನ್ನಾಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಸರಿಪಡಿಸಿದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗೆ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಗಳಾಗಿ ಪರಿಗಣಿತರಾದ ಅವರು ಮುಂದಿನ 25 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಅದರ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗಾಗಿ ಅಹರ್ನಿಶಿ ದುಡಿದರು. ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಮರ ಹೆಸರಾದರು.

ಚಿನ್ನಸ್ವಾಮಿ 1977ರಿಂದ 1980ರವರೆಗೆ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಂಚೆ 1960ರಿಂದ 1965ರವರೆಗೆ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರು ದೀರ್ಘಾವಧಿಯವರೆಗೆ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ಜಂಟಿ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು. 1965, 1973 ಮತ್ತು 1977 - 1980ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂತರರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಕೌನ್ಸಿಲ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

ಚಿನ್ನಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ (ಕೆಎಸ್‍ಸಿಎ) ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖರು. ಅವರು 1953ರಿಂದ 1978 ರವರೆಗೆ ಅದರ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು 1978ರಿಂದ 1990ರವರೆಗೆ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು 1967-68 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಆಸ್ಟ್ರೇಲಿಯಾದ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಪ್ರವಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಖಜಾಂಚಿಯಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ಎರಡನೇ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಎರಡು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ನಂತರ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಆಸ್ಟ್ರೇಲಿಯಾ ತಂಡ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿದಾಗ ಸರಣಿಯ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಾಪಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಎಂಸಿಸಿ 1969ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಆಜೀವ ಸದಸ್ಯತ್ವವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿ ಗೌರವಿಸಿತು.

ಚಿನ್ನಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಕೆಎಸ್‌ಸಿಎ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಂಗಣ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣದ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಪ್ರೇರಕ ಶಕ್ತಿ. ಅನೇಕ ಗಣ್ಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಿಂದ ಸಹಕಾರ ಪಡೆದ ಅವರು, 1969ರಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂಜಿ ರಸ್ತೆ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್‌ಗಾಗಿ ಮೈದಾನವನ್ನು ಮಂಜೂರು ಮಾಡಲು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಮನವೊಲಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾದರು.

ಚಿನ್ನಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಸ್ಟೇಡಿಯಂಗೆ ಇಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಹಮತ ಹೊಂದಿಲ್ಲದ ನಿಃಸ್ವಾರ್ಥ ಮನೋಭಾವ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರು. ಹೀಗಿದ್ದಾಗ್ಯೂ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಪ್ರಿಯರು ಅವರ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಗೌರವ ತಾಳಿದವರಾಗಿದ್ದು ಕ್ರೀಡಾಂಗಣಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರ ಹೆಸರನ್ನೇ ಬಯಸಿದರು. ಹೀಗೆ ಎಂ.ಚಿನ್ನಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಂಗಣ ಇಂದು ವಿಶ್ವಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧಿ ಪಡೆದಿದೆ.

ಎಂ. ಚಿನ್ನಸ್ವಾಮಿ 1991ರ ನವೆಂಬರ್ 8ರಂದು ನಿಧನರಾದರು.
