64-year-old Anita Isaacs, a resident of Olupumbu village in the Oshana Region, discovered that she was HIV positive at the age of 37 in 1996.

This is when she went for a job interview at Oshakati and was informed that she had to go for an HIV test if she wanted to be employed by that particular company.

By then, stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV were high, and this prompted her to go public and announce her status in November 2002 to raise awareness about HIV and fight the stigma and discrimination attached to the epidemic.
