This World Environment Day, climate action remains central to building a more resilient future.
One of the most important systems supporting that future lies right beneath our feet: soil.
Healthy soil plays a vital role in carbon storage, water retention, food security, and ecosystem health.
Over the coming days, we will be exploring the connection between climate and soil, and why it matters for long-term ecological resilience.

A few days ago, Sadhguru paid tribute to the extraordinary life and contribution of Dr. Elaine Ingham, whose pioneering work transformed the global understanding of living soil.
In continued reverence to her legacy, and at the request of her family, Cauvery Calling will be planting multiple trees in her memory — honoring over four decades of her unwavering dedication to soil biology and the Soil Food Web science.
For more than four decades, she worked tirelessly to awaken farmers and citizens to the immense intelligence of the soil ecosystem. These trees stand as a living tribute — nurturing soil health, strengthening farmer livelihoods, and restoring ecological balance.
May this offering further the movement toward living soil and a thriving planet.

The root of domestic violence is not man vs woman. It is that some people will exploit anything that is weaker than them: woman, child, animal or another man. The only solution is to spread spiritual process in the world, so that no one has any need to exploit anything. #SadhguruWisdom
In the vast alpine permafrost of the Tibetan Plateau, a silent transformation is happening. As temperatures rise and the frozen ground thaws, it is not just plant matter being lost. A groundbreaking study reveals that over half of the carbon released from these thaw slumps actually comes from microbial necromass.
These microscopic remains have been a stable carbon sink for millennia. Now, as the permafrost collapses, this ancient carbon is returning to the atmosphere. This research highlights the extreme vulnerability of alpine permafrost compared to Arctic regions.
The health of the planet is deeply connected to the stability of the soil. To protect our future, we must understand and protect the intricate life systems beneath the surface.

An old beech forest, sunlight filtering through moss-covered trunks, the scent of earth underfoot. This is where awareness and understanding begins.
In our latest interview, Tobias Wohlleben of Wohlleben’s Forest Academy explains why direct experience with forests matters more than distant facts. He shows how soil is the foundation of forest health, how forests function as living communities, and what becomes clear when we really pay attention: cooperation instead of competition, adaptation to conditions, and responsibility that begins with simple, tangible steps.

Water in the soil is the lifeblood of our food systems, yet tracking it globally is a massive scientific challenge.
Recent research has highlighted how different technologies—from satellites in orbit to sensors in the ground—can often give us contradictory signals. By analyzing 23 different global datasets over four decades, scientists are working to bridge these gaps.
The findings show a complex story: a general long term drying trend, but with surprising shifts toward wetter conditions in the last decade. This reminds us that soil is a dynamic, living system that reacts differently depending on the local environment.
To protect our water security, we must continue to refine how we monitor soil health.

In India, school textbooks are developed by national education bodies like NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training), whose materials are used or adapted by millions of students across the country.
When a Class 8 math lesson on percentages includes a fact like “52% of agricultural land worldwide is degraded,” it shows how widely understood the soil crisis has become.
When environmental realities are part of everyday learning – not just campaigns – awareness starts early.
Integrating such facts into school education globally could be one of the most meaningful steps toward long-term change.

Never romanticize suffering. The moment you do, you are not interested in human wellbeing. You just like drama. Inner Engineering is a tool to engineer yourself to go through the process of life without the fear of suffering. Whatever the hell happens around you, within yourself you are blissed out. #SadhguruWisdom

In 2017, Sadhguru launched the nationwide “Rally for Rivers” campaign in India, a major policy advocacy initiative, where he traveled across 16 Indian states, rallying 162 million people in support of river revitalization. This effort culminated in a comprehensive policy recommendation submitted to the Indian Government, which has since inspired large-scale government-backed river rejuvenation projects across 13 major rivers in India.
By 2019, Cauvery Calling initiative was launched based on Rally for Rivers policy recommendations, aiming to help 5.2 million farmers plant 2.42 billion trees in the Cauvery basin, acting as a scalable model to address tropical river revitalization and economic challenges facing farmers.
Cauvery Calling – the world’s largest farmer-driven ecological movement – enables farmers to transition to tree-based agriculture. This improves soil fertility, increases water retention, and boosts their income by 300-800%. Till date, Cauvery Calling has supported 248,337 farmers and enabled plantation of 128 million living trees. It also provides end-to-end support to make the tree-based agriculture self-sustaining by educating farmers, ensuring quality subsidized saplings, technical assistance, and market linkages.
