For three years the father of my two sons, and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been brutally penalised by his political opponents, in a personal vendetta by Army Chief, Asim Munir,  which according to the UN,  amounts to torture and which  is now taking a potentially fatal toll on his physical and mental health. 

He has endured 3 years of solitary confinement. For nearly ten months now his family has been denied contact with him. He has been deprived of the most basic human contact, denied access to books, lawyers and doctors.

The international human-rights standards are unequivocal. Under the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture.

He has endured this treatment not for 15 days, but for three years.

Pakistan’s own Supreme Court has now intervened: ordering comprehensive  medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons.

Yet those orders are being defied.

This is no longer simply a Pakistani political matter. It is a human-rights emergency.

He has deep and lifelong ties to Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained Oxford University cricket and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with this country stretches back more than half a century. His charitable activities were internationally recognised, and  include building the only free cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as a university.

His sons, my two boys, Sulaiman and Kasim, are British citizens. They have been forced to watch their father’s health decline from thousands of miles away, prevented from visiting him, denied visas, publicly threatened by government officials with arrest themselves, and even denied court-mandated regular phone calls. 

I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not  intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father. 

@FCDOGovUK: Britain must now speak out publicly and unequivocally. Demand that Pakistan comply with its own Supreme Court;  restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights.

Pakistan is a Commonwealth country. Britain has a long and proud tradition of standing against arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment and the denial of fundamental rights. Those principles mean very little if we invoke them only selectively and neglect them when inconvenient.
This an appeal to the new Burnham government  to please now do the right thing.

My information & insights on the whole development have widened since writing this tweet. I let this tweet stay as proof of my misjudgment! Mistakes should exist for record & reference!
Information now at my disposal makes me believe that Pakistan Army’s role has only been that of a “Helpless Messenger” that has repeatedly been used to relieve President Trump. Before text for Shahbaz Sharif tweet arrived from Washington, they were clueless & were preparing for the US Attacks to wipe out “Iran’s Civilization” - the decision to call off attacks is entirely “Made in America” and has to be understood in the context of American debate & Iran’s hard resistance till the 11th hour - I did a usual Pakistani sin of believing in the sincerity of Pakistan Army leadership. Imran Khan is in Allah’s protection. He is protected by the duas of millions who pray for him every day. Inshallah he will be fine. When the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court is deliberately obstructing Imran Khan’s access to justice and consequently, his freedom, we are left with no choice but to exercise our constitutional right to collective protest and apply sustained pressure to secure his release. On 8 February 2024, through their vote, Pakistanis collectively defeated tyranny and fascism. This was Pakistan’s silent revolution, a revolution carried out through the power of the ballot, not violence, but unity and resolve. On 8 February 2026, we must raise our voices through silence against the theft of our mandate on 8 February 2024. Stay at home. Close all shops, businesses, and transport. Build the pressure until justice is served. They cannot arrest us for staying at home!

I am a sister, and today my question is directed towards the corridors of power. According to multiple journalists and media sources, our brother, Imran Khan, was taken under the cover of the night to the PIMS Hospital on the pretext of eye treatment. He was kept there for three hours, and then transferred back to Adiala Jail in an atmosphere of extreme mystery and terrifying silence.

If this news is true, it is not merely oppression, it is a blatant crime. Why does no one have the courage to tell the truth to Imran Khan’s family and lawyers? Who is this being hidden from, and on whose orders? What treatment is our brother being subjected to inside the jail, and why are our family and lawyers being kept in the dark?

Imran Khan is not just another prisoner. He is the hope of this nation To endanger his health is nothing less than an attempt to blind the entire country.

This is no longer a request, it is a final warning!

Immediately allow Imran Khan’s family, personal doctors, and lawyers to meet him, make his complete medical reports public, and inform the nation why and in what conditions our brother was taken to the hospital under the cover of the night.

Remember, if even the slightest harm comes to Imran Khan’s eye, this injustice will not be buried in silence. After that, no one else’s eyes will remain safe.

My father, Imran Khan, has now spent over 900 days in a death cell with no family visits and no access to his personal doctors. Credible reports confirm he has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion, a dangerous blockage that can lead to permanent vision loss if not treated through urgent medical intervention in a proper hospital.

Yet authorities continue to block his treatment and deny him the doctors he trusts. I am even denied the right to speak to him. This is not governance. This is authoritarian cruelty.

I call on every defender of human rights to act before it is too late. The world must see that in Pakistan today, democracy is hollow and basic human rights are being crushed.
