Years of paper leaks with zero accountability, years of taking the youth for granted, years of treating India’s youth like “cockroaches” and “parasites.” This anger was always going to arrive.

For a lot of us older Gen Z, the Anna Hazare andolan was the moment of political awareness. Jantar Mantar came to us through our phones. With all my heart I hope this CJP moment is not followed by the same betrayal, though I share the well-meaning skeptic’s skepticism.

To all the young people at Jantar Mantar today, stay safe, stay hydrated and be very proud of the courage it takes to put your body on the line and exercise your right to dissent.
