We name 87 officials who should be criminally investigated. Most of these officials remain in positions of authority enabling them to unleash further deadly repression, while some have climbed up the chain of command. This impunity emboldened the authorities to unlawfully kill thousands more protesters between 8 and 9 January 2026.

Yesterday’s botched attempts by the State of Tennessee to execute Christa Pike is another awful demonstration of the cruelty of death penalty, in addition to being torturous and ultimately inhuman. It should be stopped in the US and in every country where it is still carried out.

Iranian authorities must immediately halt any plans to carry out floggings, which amount to torture, against singer Parastoo Ahmadi and eight others in connection to a live-streamed 2024 concert in Qom province.
During this concert, Parastoo Ahmadi performed unveiled in a sleeveless dress. The video went viral gaining millions of views. In mid-June 2026, Parastoo Ahmadi and 8 others were each sentenced to 74 lashes, a two-year travel ban and two-year ban on artistic activities.
On 25 September, Parastoo Ahmadi’s lawyer posted on X that Branch 16 of the Court of Appeals in Qom upheld the convictions and sentences, and that these flogging sentences will be carried out.
Flogging constitutes cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment, and violates the absolute prohibition on torture & other ill-treatment. These flogging sentences highlight the inhumanity and brutality of Iran’s justice system and its role in the ongoing assault on women’s rights.
Iranian authorities must abolish compulsory veiling and corporal punishment and end the criminalization of freedom of expression.

Four years ago today, security forces in Iran unlawfully killed 87 protesters and bystanders from the persecuted Baluchi ethnic minority in Zahedan in what became known as “Bloody Friday” during the 2022 Woman Life Freedom uprising. https://t.co/4yVYhORjkC 1/2
Impunity for the crimes against humanity committed in 2022 emboldened Iran's authorities to commit further atrocities. Thousands were killed in the Jan 2026 protest massacres. People in Iran remain at risk of recurring & escalating mass protest killings.
