Apparently, Sergej Barbarez gave the team two days off after the defeat against Switzerland so they could “focus on other things,” according to his own words at the post-match press conference.
So let me get this straight: we are about four days away from the most important World Cup match of our campaign, a game that will decide whether we advance or go home, and the players are being given time off to “think about other things.”
Other things? What exactly should they be thinking about before a match of this magnitude? Is qualifying for the next round really such a low priority for this team?
The honesty is almost unbelievable.
What makes this even worse is that the squad had already spent weeks with their families around them at the team hotel. You simply do not see this level of complacency and lack of seriousness in other national teams. While others are fully locked in and focused on the biggest tournament in football, we once again seem determined to treat it like a vacation.
The mentality is embarrassing. The lack of urgency is embarrassing. And the message it sends to the fans is embarrassing.
Wednesday will tell us everything we need to know. If this decision backfires, nobody should be surprised. A team that is not completely focused on the biggest game of its tournament has no right to complain about the consequences.
👉 The "Bosnian lily flag" refers to the official flag of the Republic of #Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1998. The design is derived from the original coat of arms of the Kotromanić dynasty, who ruled the medieval #Kingdom of Bosnia between 1377 and 1463.
