Open Access | The Sangh’s approach to organisation-building has its own clear fingerprints, bureaucratic language and tell-tale characteristics, and we managed to piece together these specific and repeated patterns into a repeatable process of evaluation. For example, if an organisation declares that it is founded by an RSS pracharak, that data point would be marked as 1. Meanwhile, an organisation displaying garlanded photos of RSS founders would receive a 0.5, and an organisation listed as an affiliate of a Sangh organisation would get a 0.25. An organisation’s cumulative score, capped at 1, represented the strength of its connection to the Sangh, with a score of 1 marking definitive inclusion within the Sangh, while an organisation with only 0.25 would, with available evidence, be considered only weakly tied to the Sangh.
What the world’s first network map of the RSS, revealing over twenty-five hundred organisations with concrete, traceable, material ties leading to the organisation, tell us about how the Sangh functions, Felix Pal (@FelixPal8) explains: https://t.co/OolKtfVM69

My blog piece reflecting the hundred years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its presence in Northeast India. The piece argues about the organisation's takeover of the region’s politics.

Open Letter to Shri Shankar Singh Ji Rawat, Four-time Elected MLA, Beawar
Shri Shankar Singh Ji Rawat, MLA, Beawar,
I, Fanish Kumar Soni, resident of 4/12 Diggi Mohalla, Beawar, Rajasthan, am bringing a serious matter to your attention. This matter concerns the forcible occupation of my house by your son and his associates, including Abhishek Jhanwar, parshad Gopal Singh Rawat, Rajesh Sen, Virendra Singh Rawat, and Surendra Chauhan, and their attempts to make us homeless.
These individuals have unlawfully occupied my property using forged and fake documents. When I filed an FIR at the Beawar City Police Station (FIR number 179/2024), your son and his associates looted all our valuable household items and attempted to evict us from our home. After this incident, a second FIR (FIR number 204/2024) was filed for theft.
Under the influence of your political power, the police presented a false investigation report, manipulated the case, and filed a fake FR. Instead of arresting the culprits, the police arrested only the witnesses, while the main criminals remained free. Despite a status quo 'stay' order by the ADG Court, corrupt police officer Nahar Singh created a fake report, and the administration, under your political influence, evicted us from our home via SDM proceedings under 145, throwing our belongings on the street.
We have been repeatedly threatened with violence, and there have been two attempts on my life. I am also being pressured to sell my property at a very low price. Despite several complaints to the PMO and Rajasthan Sampark Portal, no action has been taken due to the political influence you enjoy.
I request your immediate intervention in this matter to help us recover our property and belongings. I also urge you to keep a check on your associates and ensure justice in this case.
Additionally, I propose a peaceful resolution. I purchased this house with all my savings in 2020, selling my only asset, my home. Since Beawar became a district, its value has increased significantly, and your land mafia has been continuously attempting to seize it. I demand fair compensation for this property, after which I request you to allow this land to be used for public benefit – whether as a library for students, a temple for the community, or a yoga centre for the people of Beawar. This would be a fair way to honour the support you have received from the people of Beawar.
I am not afraid of threats to my life and am ready to resolve this matter peacefully. I trust that you will take appropriate steps in this case and ensure justice.
Fanish Kumar Soni

N Modi & A Shah claim that Hindu nationalists were more in favour of Dr Ambedkar than Congress but history shows that Savarkar and other Hindutva leaders fought against him for 30 years. My take.

My latest piece discusses Hindutva-imbued counter-insurgency strategies in Manipur. I argue that the ongoing violence in the state is principally linked to counter-insurgency. https://t.co/ufyiflBjUg
This essay attempts to interpret Manipur’s politics regarding ongoing violence by using Gramsci-inspired theories while prioritising ‘ethnicity’ over ‘class.’

After 11 years at Indian Express as columnist, I’m now playing this role at The Wire, one of the most professional & courageous Indian media outlets. My 1st op-ed deals with the dialectic between Hindutva and caste politics which is bound to gain momentum. https://t.co/tIb5pBvx7p
The developments in #Bangladesh are astounding; it appears that the people have the power. However, India is at a crossroads with civil war in Myanmar and now Bangladesh. India's East and Northeast are going through a very delicate time.
I recently learned about the passing of James C. Scott. I had just started reading his book "The Art of Not Being Governed". Scott, a trained anthropologist, focused on Southeast Asia and significantly influenced many scholars, including those in Northeast India.
Strongly Condemn the Mass Termination of around 100 Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff at TISS under the BJP-led Union Government
PSF stands in solidarity with the teachers and staff at TISS
“Modi now faces the prospect of having to negotiate with allies and those parts of the BJP that feel more emboldened to question him. That might be tricky for a leader who has personalized politics to a remarkable extent.”
