Recently, we had 10+ people at home and random other people dropping in. Means unsolicited advice from boomers for the son. Take up any job even at low salary. My son is in IT, terrific contacts. Send resume. How long is your break? Am practising basilisk gaze for next time.
OK storytime.
There are three Sanghi relative uncles who have been tracking my activities for years. Everytime I say anything against Adarniya Pradhan Sevak, they take screenshots and circulate links in family WhatsApp groups.
Sometimes they call my mom and ask, "why is your son against Modi? Tell him to not say these things." My mom has been largely silent and never once told me to censor myself.
Today something changed.
She got one of these calls again but this time, she didn't shut up. She gave it back and told one uncle to STFU. She called to tell me all about it and guess what, she was giddy with excitement. She finally stood up to your sorry ass and is laughing at you like crazy right now.
I'm SO proud of her.
Now, I shall address you directly, dear three uncles. Because I know you're reading this as well.

Hello three not-so-wise men,
For years, you have ensured that my life becomes slightly uncomfortable by doing what you do. You have made sure that I avoid family gatherings because all the larger relative circle looks at me weirdly whenever I'm around. They look at me as if I'm some toxic fellow who needs to be avoided.
Well, so I avoided you.
But NEWSFLASH: your wives and children have been texting me on the side to apologise on YOUR behalf. For YOUR behavior. They don't like what you do and don't agree with you. Unlike you, they care about family bonds and relationships more than political beliefs.
They care about becoming decent polite fun human beings.
They don't use a political leader or party as a crutch to build their personal identity. They actually do things that give them satisfaction and raise their self-worth. They have non-toxic friends, and they don't care what religion they follow. It's a fun concept, you should try it sometimes.
I have been actively avoiding family gatherings and weddings for years now because of your shitty behavior, my lovely WhatsApp uncles. I do not like the fact that my parents are uncomfortable in your presence when they attend these functions. I hate it and feel guilty that my work has put them in this position.
But they soldier on. My parents fake those smiles and fake those laughs, but they don't censor me. They tell me to continue doing what I do. Basically, behind your backs, they like the fact that you are so hot and bothered about me.
They laugh at you too.
Uncles, I know you don't have the balls to talk to me directly because you know I'll give it back to you. In fact, your kids would also give it back to you if they didn't have better things to do in life. They are forced to massage your ego from time to time just so the atmosphere at home doesn't go downhill. Some of them decided to move out because you were being such an ass all the time.
I know all this because they do keep in touch with me from time to time.
Some of them are BJP supporters too, but they at least have the mental capacity to have a decent conversation with me. They ask me about policies that I don't agree with, they ask me about my job. Because they, unlike you, have always understood my job. They get why it's important to call out authority in the larger scheme of things.
You don't.
Because you don't have the courage to challenge authority. You have been ordered around all your life by uncles that are more powerful than you, and you took it. You lied down and crawled in front of them, sucked up to them. That is YOUR way of life, not ours.
The younger generation in the family refuses to do that. They might not speak up, but they resist in their own small ways. And they're tired of your shitty complainy behavior too.
So please, stop calling my mom and call me directly (except for that one uncle who I've blocked because you threatened to kill me while you were drunk. Oh yeah, your son hates you for that by the way and you need to stop drinking so much).
Anyway, good talk. Now please sit down uncles and try not to be shitty people.
Just... Try.
Took an auto for a short ride, Rs 40. Gave driver a 100 and found I had 20, 10 & 5 rupee coin. He returned the 100 and accepted 35. After 5 mts, doorbell rang, it was the driver with security guard, asking whether he had returned the 100 note. Surprised, touched. #Kochi
Women labourers in my village in Kerala are paid Rs 350 for a day’s work while men are paid Rs 650. I cannot question this. If I do, I will be termed Gulf-returned, privileged, and accused of bringing my new-fangled notions of equality to what’s been the norm for years. 1/10
In what could possibly be the final day(s) of Graham Potter's reign, I took out time to pen down what my dysfunctional relationship with my 91-year-old, Alzheimer-battling grandmother taught me about patience, empathy and trusting a process.

Really want Nagpur curators to pose with ominous-looking sharp instruments next to the pitch, just for the sake of being photographed, then stow the instruments away.
The theories will be wild.
Toxic misogyny and patriarchy in 2 days: You are a girl. Lower your voice. You are a girl. You must forgive elders for their faults. Your tone is arrogant. Who do you think you are (because you proved them wrong). Just everyday things for young girls/women (location, age no bar)
Haven’t screamed in a theatre like this in a long time. From beginning to end I was like SRK SRK SRK SRK. Reminded me of college days. Dancing in the aisles. Flowers at the screen.
Unfortunately this was during Avatar film and I have been life-banned from Vue Cinema in Bromley.
