India just qualified for the quarter-finals of the AVC Asian Men's Volleyball Championship in Fukuoka Japan, keeping them in the Top 8 in Asian rankings and in the mid 40s in World Rankings, a far cry from the depths of around 130 they had hit a few years ago.
Encouraging performances from the team, ably coached by Dragan Mihailovic.
Dragan came in 2019, but lasted only six months before he was moved on by the VFI after wanting to have a larger say in the players picked for him, and returned only in 2024 thanks to the international federation, FIVB and IOA.
He was again sidelined early this year, only to be brought back just a month before the AVC Cup after players complained that the coaches who had taken over from him were using training and athlete performance and recovery techniques from the 1980s. That team took a bronze in the AVC Cup in Ahmedabad.
Its fabulous to see Dragan and the boys doing well, but I just can't help thinking how good we could have been had we had Dragan at the helm building this team for the 5 years he was out.
That, in short, is the heartbreak of Indian sport.
@TheAthleticFC Man the Athletics's twitter content has been absolute nonsense these days. Saying something like Barcelona rarely beats them to the world's best players when these two teams have been involved in each other's transfers since the time of Kuba and Di Stefano just makes you look bad
Infantino was able to act as he did because he had many enablers; people who kept quiet on many real issues because it suited them and helped either them or their allies to amass wealth or power or influence. Some of those enablers will now seek to replace him.

The World Cup is exposing an uncomfortable truth about international relations: citizens of countries in the Global South face systemic discrimination in visa and immigration procedures.
Lewis Hamilton says there should be a limit to how much wealth one person can have
"One of the things that I struggle with every day is that there is such a disparity between the wealthy and the poor”
"When you drive around LA there's still so many people living on the streets. You shouldn't be able to have billions"
"I think there should be a limit to how much you can have because there's enough to go around for everyone”
