🚨 NHS England director ADMITS there are NO jobs in the NHS for GPs completing training🚨
The government’s strategic plan to destroy primary care is working:
❌ >£660,000,000 funding to GP practices has been cut in the last 5 yrs
❌ The funding given (to help practices address the GP shortage) permits practices to employ almost ANY other role who are NOT a GP?!
All of this….yet RADIO SILENCE from the RCGP!
'By the time that you watch this I will no longer be here'
A poignant final message from the Leeds Rhinos legend and MND campaigner recorded before his death for a special BBC documentary 'There's Only One Rob Burrow'

The hours I have spent trying to explain this! If a med school takes 100 new students each yr, in steady state, it will graduate 100 doctors each year, whatever the length of course..shortening to 4yrs only increases output for a single, one-off year, at price of less trained drs
Because the RCP is a large, complex and rather opaque organisation, here is a thread about how it is organised and functions.
And some of the ramifications that the current goings-on are shedding light on.
So buckle up punters, for a Vaughan mega-nerd 🪡

@CraigRDoctor@DrJN_SportsMed Out of interest, if you did rescan and see myositis how would that change what you do? I’ve been referred the odd patient because of imaging commenting on isolated myositis with a history of trauma - clearly not an inflammatory myositis so I don’t have much to offer!
Myositis Sp Ab
👉🏽TIF1g - class DM, ⬆️ r/o CA (58%PPD, 95%NPD)
👉🏽BUT... if TIF1g + with CCAR1 Ab or Sp4 Ab= ⬇️ r/o CA?
👉🏽NXP2 - subQ edema, dysphgia, dist wknss, calcinosis, ⬆️ r/o CA
👉🏽Mi2 - severe wknss, ⬆️⬆️ CK, a lot of inflamm on bx; good resp to Rx
@Abi_Rimmer None of this is your fault so nothing to feel guilty about, it’s just rubbish luck. If your parents are anything like mine they would much rather help than for you to struggle, take care (I had a rubbish time with chemo and only had myself to look after)
@DougEthanJac This sounds rubbish. Are you west mids based? If so feel free to DM - I just about made it through to CCT but it was a challenge at times (and did find a few people particularly helpful)
@DeborahAlsina@RheumatologyUK I’ve been here since Friday - Glasgow has been great in the sun! Hopefully will get the chance to say hi at some point - @VersusArthritis is funding my friend’s research (@MeganLizi)
@ronansetron I agree with all the comments about @drkathrynmannix books, I’ve started recommending “Listen” to medical students. I’ve been lucky to learn from some people who make it look easy (@elinlowri top of the list) and being on the “other side” gave a interesting insight…

New NHS England Commissioning policy: Abatacept is now approved for refractory idiopathic inflammatory myopathy #myositis (adults and children >/=2 years) https://t.co/S6Lah1Hi77
Frankly, I don't know why Labour, instead of continually talking bollocks about the Tories wanting to flog the NHS off to the highest bidder, don't just stick this on posters, leaflets and social media every week and leave voters to draw the obvious conclusion.
@writersamr Will do! A lot of medical schools now put a fair amount of emphasis on communication skills for students but (in my experience anyway) it’s something that isn’t thought about as much once people actually becomes doctors (other than in some quite specific situations)
