Wondering what the world and our nation will look like as time marches on, not saying as we move forward, because in many ways we are moving backwards.
@CountyExecBello Agreed, but the culprit here is the DA’s office. They neglected to hold a preliminary hearing, which is designed to minimize jail time before a finding of guilt. They didn’t do that, the judge corrected that by releasing the man with conditions.
@AcctProgressive@GaryVanson@RochesterRants@rsgaddy20@marylupienroc@rachbarnhart@GinoFanelli The Crisis Team emerged when City Council wanted to pretend they were taking money away from RPD. They moved FACIT out from under RPD and turned it into the Crisis Team. FACIT had a 30+ year history. It could have just as easily stayed where it was and expanded its operation…
@GaryVanson These members of City Council had the opportunity to watch the BWC. Other departments release BWC videos immediately. RPD should do the same. Let the people see for themselves.
One of two brothers facing charges in connection to a high-speed chase that led to a crash in Brighton that killed a 92-year-old man has accepted a plea deal that includes a 10-year prison sentence.

3/3 The primary job of the police is harm reduction. They cannot prevent all crimes nor can they solve them all. But they can take actions that can help people & neighborhoods without arrests. It requires alternative action and follow up. This is doable.
1/3Recently I over heard a conversation between a neighbor and a member of the RPD. The neighbor was asking what could be done about a homeless man who is living in a bus shelter. He has now moved furniture onto the sidewalk. The officer responded with the police mantra:
2/3 “If he does anything illegal I could give him an appearance ticket but then he would be right back.” The neighbor nodded understanding the futility of the situation. That is a false narrative. There are interventions that the RPD has access to which might be helpful.
@GaryVanson They were struck. They were there as a barrier between the protesters and the police. They did not engage in throwing projectiles of any type.
