A school imagined by the 14 year old homeschooler I tutor in English
School day from 8-3:
The first 30-40 minutes of the day are a "wake up" or a free period - do whatever to get your mind right for the day
Then everyone goes outside —> All learning is done outdoors
What about during winter? The rooms have lots of windows so natural light can come in
The students learn just the basics of the core subjects - just as much as you need for life - no fluff or extra unnecessary bits
-Lots of art classes
-Language classes
-Lots of Gym/Physical ed classes
-Tons of passion-based classes and passion-discovery classes
-Life skills: How to interact with peers
-Growing your social intelligence --> How to keep a conversation going - According to her, too many people her age are socially awkward
Interestingly enough... these are all public schoolers...
She says they are too focused on what others think and its not good for them
She also said there should be classes to teach us how to think before we speak
Lastly: the school NEEDS to serve real food
What do you think of the vision for her school?
Just wondering…What other school district has a superintendent that would hype up the student body like this before a pep assembly? WE ARE FORT!!! ❤️ 🖤 ❤️ @FortOsageSchool @fortprincipal @fortbball @DrJSnodgrass
Join us next Friday, January 6 at 7:30am for our KCEPA Virtual Chat & Coffee! Start 2023 off with discussion around how to increase staff morale throughout second semester!
My advice- legislatures and other political officials need to TRUST educators, provide appropriate funding so we meet the needs of ALL students, and maybe EVERYONE treating educators with respect?!?! This won’t just fix itself- we must do the hard work now!
Doing research for an upcoming event, and these statistics blew me away. In the US, we have lost 567,000 teachers since the pandemic. In 2010, 30,000 students were studying to become teachers, & that number, in 2017 was down to 13,700. Something must be done.
