Me: “OMG Barkley is on!!”
Normal person: “The what?”
Me: “It’s this crazy race in TN that only 20 ppl have finished in 40 years.”
Normal person: “Wow, are you gonna watch?”
Me: “You don’t watch, you follow some guy’s Twitter!”

It’s time. The cigarette has been lit and the Barkley 2025 is now underway!
I’m not at Frozen Head this year but will be watching via @keithdunn Twitter feed.
Remember the Barkley is invisible. You don’t see anything. This is about the runners, by themselves, against all that OUT THERE.
Testicle Spectacle, Son of a Bitch Ditch, Rat Jaw, Meth Lab Hill, Meat Grinder, Checkmate Hill, Candy Ass, Big Hell, The Bad Thing, Middle Finger Ridge.
These are places you’ll hear of but you’ll never see unless you close your eyes.

John Kelly @RndmForestRunnr completed loop five and has finished the 2023 Barkley Marathons in 58:42:23. John is the third runner to finish the Barkley Marathons more than once. #BM100
One runner, after finishing his loop and dropping, cooked an egg burrito while showering. Like, took a camp stove and skillet into the shower, cooked the eggs, etc., and ate the tortilla. In the shower. #BM100
Through the tower so far (actual descriptions given to me): guy with glasses, guy with funny pants, nondescript guy, a real big smiling guy, a tan guy, the guy with a big grin, small European woman, tall guy with Mohawk-ish hair, another guy, tall guy with black beard. #BM100
James Earl Ray faced downpours of rain too at night on the Barkley course in 1977. A prison spokesman said Ray looked “like a pig wallowing in a sty caked with mud, hair wet and matted, cut from briars and very hungry.” #BM100

to paraphrase Laz: "you can't just have a bunch of virgins wandering around in the woods."
Even the strongest runners usually are shown the way by a veteran for at least the first loop.
