I am so happy for you both. From 17 years of marriage, going on 18, here is what I know with my whole being.

Love is a daily choice that we, as partners, have the absolute luxury to choose. The butterflies will quiet sometimes, and that is okay. What lasts is the way you keep each other’s hearts safe with small, steady kindness.

Be each other’s soft place to land. Now, Soft doesn't mean pushover. The best thing you can ever do is be an understanding and accountable partner, for yourself and your partner. That's what makes true success in a relationship.

Say I love you OFTEN. Listen all the way to the end. Be quick to apologize and quick to forgive. Arguing doesn't have to be a battle to create pain, sometimes it is a way to create spirited understanding. Leave little notes. Make the other a cup of coffee just because. Protect your time together. Celebrate small wins and overcelebrate big ones.

Communication doesn't have to be words. Sometimes, sitting in the same room, saying nothing, can be more vocal than a podcast.

Never let the comfort of forever become a reason to coast. Forever is ego, life is not ego. Keep making each other feel chosen. 8 billion people on this planet and you picked one to spend your LIFE with. Not your hour, or weekend, Life. Remind them and YOURSELF often why you did that crazy thing. Cheer loudly in public, comfort gently in private. Hold hands in the kitchen. Slow dance in the hallway. Fall asleep with your toes touching so you never forget you are on the same team.

By dedicating your life to someone, you do so under one specific agreement, this will end. You don't know when. Either the universe or you will decide, but there will be an ending that eventually comes. It is inevitable for us all. So love in a way that is so full and pure, that when it comes, there is more to give because your capacity to love has grown so much.

Time is a gift, not a guarantee, which makes the ordinary days sacred. Treasure Tuesdays Together. Laugh a lot. Rest in each other’s care.

I am truly cheering for you and can't wait to see what advice you give to someone in 17 years from now 🥹. Massive congratulations, and may your home always feel warm, kind, and safe for the both of you.
