There were similar massacres in the town of Kirovabad that same year in November followed by a 3rd in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, in 1990. Finally a 4th in the Azerbaijani controlled town of Maraga in 1992. These were women, children, elderly, civilians who were massacred.

Everyone seems to forget that the whole conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia began when the Armenians voted for independence and the Azerbaijani’s responded with a massacre of Armenians in the town of Sumgait a week later.

THAT was the first initiation of violence.
