@IsisJournal articulated, and what purpose it can or should serve in 'healing' a majority non-Indigenous nation. Check out my exploration of this through the cultural representations of 'Mungo Man,' whose 'Aboriginality' and 'humanity' were often depicted in tension. https://t.co/0s1Am2dkUn
Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.
Pro-Aboriginal is not anti-white,
nor does loving your culture mean you are less Australian.
These things are not mutually exclusive
A history denied is compelled to repeat itself; and each year on January 26th, we celebrate the trauma inflicted on Aboriginal people.
From a position of science, it is the denial of trauma that compounds and magnifies the original trauma; because you are forced to expend more energy 'convincing' people you have experienced trauma rather than on healing from the trauma itself.
The denial extends to invisibility.
Aboriginal people are not celebrated for our contribution to this country on January 26; and there is not greater injustice than to feel invisible. To feel as though you matter less.
I am a proud Australian and I would like the basic right to celebrate that.
But until we have a maturity of leadership that has the bravery and honesty to acknowledge our past; our future will continue to be limited by ignorance,

Here’s @fbongiornoanu and I on Boris Johnson’s memoir ‘Unleashed’.
We are advised that BoJo’s decision to leave the country moments after this publication appeared is purely coincidental

@drjpersian If the weather has improved and you like a good garden, the Schönbrunn Palace is pretty speccy, with a hedge maze and grounds. Inside is cool too if you're keen to see some insane imperial wealth and massive paintings!
@drjpersian I've just been in Vienna! Amazing galleries, if that's your thing. I liked the Belvedere. & if you're a classical music fan there are tons of concerts in various locations. My favourite was in St Anne's (Annakirche) that played Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven on 18th century violins!
Very cool to have our research on Gondwanaland featured in this Aus Geographic article. I posted the UNSW Newsroom version last month but if you didn’t catch that click through to read about our work on coal, supercontinents, and the Gondwana Rainforests.

A month ago I had the pleasure to present my new book project, Earth Science from the South, in Dublin at UCD. If you're at all interested in new histories of earth science or how the Kimberley diamond rush shaped understandings of the planet, the recording is now online.
